This Blake Brown Hair Mask Is Heavy… but My Dry Hair Loved It 🤎✨

Let’s discuss the texture first because this mask is rich rich 🤎😭

The Blake Brown Wild Nectar Santal Fundamental Nourishing Mask has one of the thickest, creamiest textures I’ve used in a while. I applied it after conditioner because my hair was craving extra moisture, and this was absolutely a full treatment moment rather than a casual everyday step.

Once I rinsed it out, my hair felt incredibly soft, smoother through the ends and much easier to detangle ✨ It also looked shinier, my frizz felt calmer and the scent made the whole routine feel ridiculously luxurious.

Now for the honest part 👀

This mask is a little heavy. My hair loved the moisture, but I would not use a huge scoop or reach for it every single wash day. A smaller amount focused through the lengths and ends would be enough for me next time.

My final verdict 🤎

✨ Amazing softness

✨ Easier detangling

✨ Smoother, shinier ends

✨ Gorgeous scent

✨ Best when my hair feels especially dry

✨ Rich enough that a little goes a long way

This is the kind of mask I would save for a proper deep conditioning night, not a rushed shower. My dry hair was very happy afterward, but she definitely received the deluxe package 😂✨

Would you rather have a super rich hair mask or something lightweight enough for every wash day? 👀

... Read moreOkay, so we've all been there, right? You get your hands on a luxuriously thick, rich hair mask, like the Blake Brown Wild Nectar one I just reviewed, and you're excited for that deep conditioning magic. But then you wonder, 'Am I even using this right to get the best results?' Especially with masks that are genuinely 'THICK thick' and feel 'Rich, buttery' to the touch, knowing the best way to apply them can make all the difference between luscious locks and just... heavy hair. First off, why are these masks so creamy and dense? It's usually a sign they're packed with potent, nourishing ingredients designed for deep penetration and intense moisture. They're formulated to coat each strand, repairing damage, sealing cuticles, and locking in hydration. This kind of heavy-duty treatment is a godsend for dry, damaged, color-treated, or naturally coarse and curly hair that craves extra love. Now, let's talk about application, specifically on wet hair – which is where many of us start! The biggest game-changer for me has been towel-drying my hair before applying the mask. When your hair is dripping wet, the water dilutes the mask, making it less effective. Gently squeeze out excess water with a towel until your hair is damp, not soaked. This allows your hair to absorb the mask's beneficial ingredients much more efficiently, rather than just letting them slide off with the water. Next, sectioning your hair can seriously elevate your mask game. If you have a lot of hair, divide it into two to four sections. This ensures every strand gets coated evenly. For a truly 'Rich, buttery' mask, remember the golden rule: 'use a light hand.' Start with a small, almond-sized amount for each section. You can always add more, but you can't easily take away! Focus the product mainly on your mid-lengths and ends, as these are typically the oldest and most damaged parts of your hair. Your scalp usually produces its own oils, so unless you have a specific scalp treatment mask, avoid saturating the roots, especially with a thick formula, to prevent potential heaviness. Gently massage the mask into your hair, ensuring good saturation. You can even use a wide-tooth comb to distribute it evenly and help detangle. Once applied, clip your hair up and let the mask work its magic for the recommended time – usually 5-15 minutes, or even longer for an intensive treatment. For an extra boost, sometimes I'll pop on a shower cap to trap warmth, which can help the ingredients penetrate deeper. Rinsing is just as crucial as application, especially with a concentrated mask. You want to rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear and your hair no longer feels slippery or heavy with product. Any residue can weigh your hair down and make it look greasy faster. I usually rinse with lukewarm water, and then a quick shot of cool water at the end to help seal the cuticles and boost shine. Finally, consider the frequency. Because these 'THICK thick' masks are so potent, they're often best used as a weekly or bi-weekly deep treatment, rather than every wash day. Listening to your hair is key – if it feels particularly dry or stressed, it might be calling for that rich, creamy goodness. By perfecting your application technique, you'll unlock the full potential of these powerful hair masks, leaving your hair feeling incredibly soft, smooth, and genuinely nourished, just like mine felt after using the Blake Brown one!
