🎀 THRIFTED NURSERY 🎀

For 9 months I frequently visited my local Goodwill. The reward? An A D O R A B L E nursery for my baby girl.

Not pictured: Her dresser which I got off Facebook marketplace and my husband sanded and re-stained it. I put gold flowers knobs on and it’s perfect!

The only furniture in her room that isn’t thrifted is the rocking chair.

After months of patient searching, I ended up with a unique, charming space that feels incredibly special. If you're dreaming of a similar aesthetic, here are some of my top tips and things I learned along the way to help you find those perfect home goods and decor pieces. First, patience truly is a virtue. Just like my 9-month hunt, transforming a nursery with thrifted finds takes time. Don't expect to furnish an entire room in one weekend. Enjoy the process of discovery! Pop into your local Goodwill or other second-hand shops regularly. You never know what gems you might stumble upon. Next, have a vision, but stay flexible. I knew I wanted a cottagecore baby girl nursery aesthetic – soft colors, natural materials, and a touch of vintage charm. This helped me focus my search. I kept an eye out for things like a gold ornate mirror or whimsical wall art. However, sometimes the best finds are unexpected! I might have gone in looking for botanical prints and left with a beautiful wooden swan-shaped mirror instead. Embrace these surprises; they add character. When thrifting for a nursery, safety is paramount, especially for items like a wooden crib. While I focused on decor, if you're considering furniture, thoroughly inspect for damage, recalls, and ensure it meets current safety standards. For decor, a good clean is usually all that's needed. Think about repurposing and DIY projects. My husband and I took a dresser from Facebook Marketplace and gave it a new life. Look for pieces with good bones that you can easily transform. An old brass magazine organizer can become a stylish holder for children's books like STELLALUNA or The Lorax. A simple bow-shaped shelf might just need a fresh coat of paint to perfectly display an angel figurine or a sweet white duck plush toy. To really nail the cottagecore aesthetic, focus on natural elements and soft textures. Look for woven baskets for storage, plush stuffed animals like a teddy bear or lamb, and warm lighting. A lamp with a pleated gray fabric shade and a clear and gold base can cast a cozy glow. For wall decor, I found beautiful botanical flower prints and iris flowers that really tie into the theme. A delicate pink blanket with strawberry patterns in the crib adds that final touch of sweetness. Don't forget the smaller details! Cute pink baby shoes displayed on a shelf, or incorporating practical items like a baby monitor subtly, can make the room feel lived-in and loved. It's about creating a harmonious space where every item tells a story. By taking your time and being creative, you can achieve a truly unique and adorable thrifted nursery decor that's both budget-friendly and full of personality. It's incredibly rewarding to create a space for your little one that's not only beautiful but also holds so many memories of the journey you took to furnish it.
