My Mom Outfits Aren’t Outfitting

I’m three months postpartum and I hate the way I look in all my clothes. None of my jeans fit and I look terrible in tight and loose fitting shirts. I see people wearing such cute clothes on TikTok but they pay $100 for a shirt, and I’m not willing to spend that much. I wish I could find cute, affordable clothes that isn’t fast fashion. My outfit today was kinda cute but my jeans were way too tight - but I took a picture anyway lol. I’d also like to find some small businesses that sell quality clothes that don’t break the bank…

... Read moreOh my goodness, I totally get where you're coming from! That postpartum body is a whole new adventure, and suddenly nothing fits quite right. I remember looking in my closet and feeling so defeated, especially when all I saw were pre-pregnancy jeans that were miles from zipping up. It’s like my body went on a vacation and forgot to bring back my old shape! But seriously, feeling comfortable and confident in your clothes is SO important, especially when you're navigating new motherhood and already have so much on your plate. One game-changer for me was embracing the power of high-waisted leggings and stretchy mom jeans. Seriously, they are a lifesaver. They offer support, comfort, and can be dressed up or down. Instead of forcing yourself into those tight blue jeans, maybe explore some darker wash stretchy denim or even a pair of comfortable joggers that you can pair with those black high-top sneakers. That maroon top you mentioned with a cozy tan fuzzy jacket sounds like a great start – it’s all about mixing comfort with a touch of style. Think layers and flowy fabrics that flatter your new shape without clinging. When it comes to finding affordable fashion for moms that isn't fast fashion, it takes a bit of digging but it's totally doable! I’ve had success exploring local consignment shops or even online marketplaces for gently used, higher-quality pieces. You’d be surprised what gems you can find, from stylish blouses to perfectly broken-in jeans that fit just right. Another tip is to look into brands that focus on ethical production and offer sales during off-seasons. Sometimes, investing a little more in a few versatile, good-quality pieces can save you money in the long run compared to buying many cheaper items that quickly fall apart. For casual everyday mom outfits, think about building a mini capsule wardrobe. Start with comfortable basics like plain t-shirts, long-sleeve tops, and versatile cardigans or lightweight jackets. Layering is your best friend right now! It helps accommodate fluctuating body temperatures and can hide areas you might be self-conscious about. Pair these with those amazing high-waisted leggings or comfortable joggers. Add a stylish accessory like a scarf or a statement necklace, and suddenly, you're not just wearing 'mom clothes,' you're wearing an intentionally put-together look. Don't forget comfortable yet chic sneakers are a must-have for chasing after little ones. Outfit ideas for a new mom who still wants to feel put together can be simple. For example, a flowy midi dress with sneakers or ankle boots is incredibly comfortable and chic. Or, try a monochromatic look – all black or all navy – it instantly looks elevated without much effort. Don't underestimate the power of a well-fitting, structured blazer thrown over a simple tee and jeans for an instant polish. And remember, accessories can transform any outfit! A great pair of earrings or a stylish but practical tote bag can make all the difference. Finding small businesses that sell quality clothes that don't break the bank is a wonderful goal. I’ve found many through Instagram and Etsy by searching for terms like 'sustainable mom fashion,' 'ethical baby clothes' (many also do adult lines!), or 'handmade clothing women.' Look for brands that clearly state their production practices and fabric sources. Reading reviews is key! Sometimes these smaller brands have slightly higher price points than fast fashion, but the quality and longevity often make them more affordable in the long run. Plus, you’re supporting a dream! Ultimately, the goal is to find clothes that make you feel good. Your body has done something incredible, and it deserves to be clothed in comfort and confidence. It's a journey, not a sprint, to rebuild your wardrobe. Keep experimenting with different silhouettes and fabrics, and don't be afraid to try on things you wouldn't normally. You've got this, mama!

Now if you have a piece of clothing that doesn’t fit into that category but you still love it; then that’s perfectly fine. It’s all about becoming comfortable and confident in the body you have now. I hope this helps and you got this okay!!

I recommend trying to build a wardrobe capsule for yourself with items in your closet you already have and take inventory about what you would need to purchase/invest in. Another tip I have is to find out your body shape (retangular, oval, hourglass, triangular, pear, etc.) and dress to what flatters that shape.
