A day in Banff with the family 🗻❄️🎄

2025/1/1 Edited to

... Read moreWow, what an adventure! Planning our winter trip to Banff and Lake Louise was half the fun, and experiencing it was even better. If you're dreaming of a snowy escape with your family, let me share a few more insights from our recent visit. First, let's talk about those majestic snow-covered mountains and the crisp, fresh air. Seriously, nothing beats the feeling of waking up and seeing the Rockies blanketed in white. We found that layering up is absolutely key. Think thermal base layers, a good fleece, and a waterproof, insulated outer shell, plus warm hats, gloves, and waterproof boots. We saw so many people unprepared, and trust me, you want to be comfortable to enjoy all the beauty! Our day started early, even before sunrise, with a much-needed coffee stop. This is a must if you want to beat the crowds at Lake Louise. We grabbed our coffees and headed straight for the iconic lake. Seeing it partially frozen, with the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in the background, was just breathtaking. While we enjoyed a family walk around Lake Louise, watching others ice skate on the frozen lake looked incredibly fun – if you have time, definitely add that to your list! One of the absolute highlights was the sleigh ride. We bundled up and enjoyed a charming ride through the snowy landscape, pulled by two beautiful white horses. Passing by towering pine trees, it felt like stepping into a postcard. It’s such a classic winter experience and surprisingly relaxing, allowing you to simply soak in the scenery without having to worry about navigating the snow yourself. It's a fantastic activity for all ages, especially with kids. After exploring Lake Louise, we ventured into downtown Banff. Even in winter, the town is bustling with a unique charm. The traditional architecture dusted with snow, and the backdrop of the mountains, makes for a picturesque stroll. There are plenty of shops to browse for souvenirs and cozy restaurants to warm up in. We found a lovely spot for lunch that served hearty Canadian fare – perfect after a morning outdoors. And speaking of warming up, our day culminated with a visit to the Banff Upper Hot Springs. What an incredible way to end a chilly day! Soaking in the steamy outdoor mineral water, with the snow-covered mountains surrounding us and the night sky above, was pure bliss. It’s incredibly therapeutic and a fantastic way to relax those tired muscles after a day of winter adventures. My kids absolutely loved it too, splashing around while we enjoyed the warmth. If you're planning your own winter getaway to Lake Louise and Banff, don't hesitate. Embrace the cold, pack wisely, and get ready for an unforgettable family experience surrounded by some of the most stunning natural beauty in the world. Every moment, from the peaceful night scene at Lake Louise to the bustling streets of Banff, felt truly magical.
