Starting with short stories on platforms like Reddit is a powerful way to build a loyal audience, especially when the narratives touch on raw, emotional themes like the one A.Powell describes—conflict over pregnancy and the tension of complex relationships.
What stands out is her honest reflection on trying to adapt her book into a film. Many creators face similar setbacks when transitioning from written content to visual media. Issues can range from production challenges to storytelling adjustments that don't land as expected on screen. Yet her resilience and vision to keep pursuing film adaptations is a common and fruitful experience for many authors.
For others looking to take their literary work to the screen, it’s important to understand the different demands of each medium and possibly collaborate with experienced filmmakers who can help translate the story effectively. Building a strong narrative universe through consistent short stories, as A.Powell has since 2019/2020, establishes a solid foundation both creatively and with an audience.
Personal experience also shows that incorporating authentic and provocative themes, like the intense and shocking scenes she mentions, grabs attention and sparks discussion—key ingredients for successful storytelling whether on page or screen. More broadly, writers who embrace both writing and visual storytelling open new avenues to expand their reach and engage audiences in compelling ways.
