Hey everyone! I’ve been absolutely obsessed with Night in the Woods ever since I first played it, and Mae Borowski quickly became one of my all-time favorite characters. There’s just something so relatable about her existential dread, her sarcastic humor, and her journey of figuring things out back in Possum Springs. So, of course, I had to try cosplaying her! If you’re thinking about bringing our favorite chaotic college dropout to life, I’m here to share some of my personal tips and experiences to help you create your own purr-fect Mae Borowski cosplay. First things first, let’s talk about Mae’s iconic look. It’s deceptively simple, but getting the details right makes all the difference! The Beanie: This is non-negotiable! Mae’s red beanie with the yellow star cutout is probably her most recognizable accessory. I found a plain red beanie and then used yellow felt to cut out a star and carefully stitched it on. You could also use fabric glue if sewing isn’t your thing, but make sure it’s secure! This really sells the 'Mae' vibe. The Jacket: Mae’s signature red pleather jacket is another must-have. I scoured thrift stores for ages until I found one that had that slightly worn, lived-in feel. Don’t worry if it’s not exactly like hers; the key is the color and the relaxed fit. Mae isn’t about pristine fashion! The Outfit Basics: Underneath, she usually wears a dark (often black) t-shirt and ripped jeans. I just raided my closet for my comfiest black tee and some jeans I already had that were distressed. If your jeans aren’t ripped enough, a little careful DIY with scissors and sandpaper can work wonders. The Tail (and Ears): This is where the animal aspect comes in! For the tail, I bought some black faux fur fabric, stitched it into a long, tapered tube, stuffed it with poly-fil, and added a wire inside to make it poseable. Then I attached it to a belt loop with a safety pin. For the ears, I made simple triangular shapes from black felt and attached them to a headband. They're subtle but add so much character! Shoes: Mae rocks some sturdy black boots, often resembling Doc Martens. Again, thrift stores are your friend here, or any comfortable black combat-style boot will do. She’s ready for adventure, or at least stomping around the streets of Possum Springs. Makeup & Attitude: Mae’s makeup is pretty minimal – think natural with a hint of sleepy grunge. A little eyeliner, maybe some subtle blush. The real magic comes from embodying her personality! Mae is expressive – she can be moody, curious, playful, or totally zoned out. Practice some of her typical poses or facial expressions from the game. Leaning against a wall, looking a bit disgruntled, or giving a big, goofy grin can really bring the character to life for your photos. Props for Extra Flair: If you want to go the extra mile, consider carrying a prop! Her old baseball bat is iconic, or a beat-up acoustic guitar could work too. These small details can really enhance your Night in the Woods cosplay and make it instantly recognizable to fellow fans. I love seeing other people’s #nightinthewoodscosplay and #maeborowskicosplay! It’s such a fun community to be a part of. Don't be afraid to put your own spin on it and share your journey, just like the original post says, #duetswelcome! It’s all about having fun and celebrating a game that means so much to us. Happy cosplaying!
