I quit eating fast food… Here’s why

So I recently quit fast food cold turkey and here’s my reasoning.

⭐️ well first and foremost it’s unhealthy and leaves your body feeling gross. I noticed after I ate fast food I would feel super oily and a lot of the time really gassy and gross.

⭐️ I overindulged. So when I ate fast food from any place I would always over eat because I didn’t want to “waste” the money I spent. This is a bad mindset that I carried with me throughout life.

⭐️ as someone in ED recovery it would make me feel super guilty and uncomfortable. This happened because of the fact that fast food would ultimately make me gain unhealthy weight cutting it has eliminated that.

⭐️ weight gain. Since college fast food has been something in my life almost daily and I have definitely received the consequences of my actions. The freshman 15 looked more like 25. I went from a normal bmi to an overweight bmi in 8 months during my first year of college and by cutting fast food it should be easier to shreds a few pounds now.

⭐️ I’ll save money. Since I’ve stopped eating fast food I haven’t been spending that much money on food. I go grocery shopping every 2-3 weeks and noticed I have a lot more money left for shopping.

⭐️ gut health. When I was eating fast food, I noticed my gut health was HORRIBLE, if it wasn’t one thing it was another. The lack of fiber and nutrients in fast food did not aid me in proper digestion.

⭐️ more time to learn to cook. So I was never really the type to want to learn how to make things or pair food but since cutting fast food I have a lot more time and drive to really focus on home cooked meals.

⭐️ food taste better. Since cutting fast food my body CRAVES natural fruit and vegetables. Home cooked natural foods taste so much more better bc I’m not consuming the same chemicals over and over again.

⭐️ there’s never a same taste. A lot of the problem when I wanted to eat was the fact that I didn’t want to keep going to the same places because I was getting “tired” of the taste. Since quitting fast food and learning how to make new things and grocery shop every meal is a different taste and it makes decisions easier.

⭐️ Body health, so my skin has cleared up so much, I’m less bloated, I have better breath, I feel more hydrated, my sleep schedule is much better, my energy is much better, and I overall feel so much more better since quitting fast food.

⭐️ finally, satisfaction. Fast food never really satisfied me. I always wanted more of it and I know now because of it’s addictive nature but since quitting this has been something that I’ve obviously had to adjust to but it actually happened pretty quick, after I eat something I feel more satisfied and it feels like a good “full” not a sick full. Ifykyk.

Well that’s it 💋 I hope this either inspired you to also cut fast food out completely or maybe start to consider to cut it.

Over all my body had felt MUCH better and even my mental health has been much better.

... Read moreQuitting fast food can feel like a monumental task, especially if it's been a long-standing part of your routine. I remember thinking it would be impossible to break free from the convenience of a quick drive-thru meal. But trust me, taking that first step, whether it's cold turkey or a gradual reduction, is the most crucial part. One of the biggest hurdles I faced was dealing with cravings, especially for those salty French fries or a juicy burger. It’s important to understand why you're craving it. Are you truly hungry, or is it stress, boredom, or a habit? For me, having a stash of healthy snack alternatives became a lifesaver. Think crunchy veggies with hummus, a handful of nuts, or a piece of fruit. Sometimes, just having a glass of water or hot tea can help curb the initial urge. The original article touched on the joy of learning to cook, and I can't emphasize this enough. It doesn't mean you have to become a gourmet chef overnight! Start simple. Instead of grabbing a McDonald's burger, try making a healthier version at home with lean ground beef or a veggie patty on a whole-wheat bun with plenty of fresh toppings. Craving chicken nuggets? Air-fry some homemade chicken strips coated in whole-wheat breadcrumbs. Swap those deep-fried fries for baked potato wedges seasoned with your favorite spices. Learning a few simple, quick recipes can make a huge difference in satisfying those fast-food urges in a much healthier way. Meal planning became my secret weapon. Dedicate an hour or two on a Sunday to plan out your meals for the week and do some basic prep. This could mean chopping vegetables, cooking a batch of grains, or portioning out snacks. When you have healthy options readily available, you're far less likely to reach for that fast-food menu when hunger strikes. It also helps reinforce the money-saving aspect mentioned earlier; you'll see your grocery budget stretch further and have more left over for other things you enjoy. Another key is finding alternatives for when you're genuinely short on time. Look for local delis with healthy pre-made salads, find a quick-service restaurant that offers grilled chicken and veggies, or keep some frozen healthy meals on hand. It's about consciously choosing better options, even on busy days. Don't beat yourself up if you slip up – it happens to everyone. The important thing is to get right back on track with your next meal. The transformation I experienced, from better digestion and clearer skin to increased energy and a more positive outlook, was truly motivating. It's not just about losing weight; it's about reclaiming your health and feeling genuinely good from the inside out. Remember, every small step away from fast food is a step towards a healthier, happier you. You've got this!
