Kick of to the summer: pool frizz
As summer approaches, many of us look forward to relaxing by the pool, but pool frizz can quickly turn those sunny days into a hair care nightmare. Pool frizz is primarily caused by exposure to chlorine and hard water, which strip the hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry, brittle, and frizzy. One of my go-to methods to combat this is to pre-treat my hair before swimming. Applying a leave-in conditioner or a protective oil, like coconut or argan oil, forms a barrier that reduces chlorine absorption. Another effective practice is to wet your hair with clean water before jumping into the pool. Hair absorbs less chlorinated water if it is already saturated with fresh water. After swimming, it’s crucial to rinse your hair immediately with clean water and follow up with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to remove any chemical residues and replenish moisture. I also recommend using specialized hair care products designed for swimmers, such as shampoos containing clarifying agents and conditioners that restore moisture and repair damage. Wearing a swim cap can provide an extra layer of protection, especially for those long hair days. Maintaining a weekly deep conditioning routine helps restore elasticity and reduces frizz over time. For those with color-treated hair, extra care is needed since chlorine can accelerate color fading. Using color-safe, sulfate-free shampoos and regular hair masks can help extend the vibrancy of your color. By incorporating these simple yet effective strategies into your summer hair care routine, you can enjoy pool time without sacrificing hair health or dealing with frustrating frizz. Embrace summer confidently with smooth, hydrated hair that shines, even after a day in the pool.
