#SelfCareSunday

My son started school this year and oh boy, have we been picking up what the district dishes out!! It feels like we have been coughing for 8 weeks straight.

A month ago I made a homemade cough syrup using local honey, onion and garlic. It has been a god send and actually works!

So this week I decided to make some fire cider, oregano oil and various cough syrups, including one even the kiddos will take!

So my self care today is making health a priority🧡

Homemade remedies like cough syrups made from local honey, onion, and garlic are not only accessible but have been trusted for generations. Honey soothes the throat and acts as a natural antibacterial agent, while onion and garlic have antiviral and immune-boosting properties. Fire cider is another popular kitchen remedy that combines apple cider vinegar with ingredients like garlic, ginger, horseradish, and hot peppers to create a potent tonic known for boosting immunity and relieving respiratory symptoms. Oregano oil, with its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities, can also be a helpful addition for soothing coughs and congestion when used appropriately. When preparing homemade syrups for children, it’s important to adjust ingredients to be mild and palatable, ensuring safety and encouraging youngsters to take them willingly. These natural treatments not only support the immune system but can complement conventional care, helping families feel more empowered in managing seasonal illnesses without over-reliance on pharmaceutical products. Prioritizing self-care by making health a daily focus can improve overall wellness. Simple kitchen-based remedies offer an effective, affordable option for many, and incorporating them into your health routine can alleviate symptoms and support faster recovery during those challenging weeks of coughs and colds that often come with the school year.
