Farmer’s Market Nostalgia

There’s something so comforting about visiting a farmer’s market here in the States, but it always takes me back to the piețe ( markets ) from my childhood in my home country. Those lively markets, full of fresh veggies, meats, and dairy products, were an everyday occurrence. We’d never buy our produce from the grocery store – that was where you went for imported goods. The piața was the place to find the best local goodies and have a little bargaining with the sellers.

I never thought I’d miss it as much as I do now. It’s funny how you don’t realize the value of something until it’s not easily accessible anymore. Here, farmer’s markets feel like a special event – only open on select days and at certain times of the year, and the prices… well, let’s just say they don’t quite compare to those from back home. Still, I’m grateful to have them, to be reminded of my roots and to support local growers. 🍅🌻

Do you have any markets that remind you of your childhood or a place that makes you feel at home?
