It’s easy to get caught up in the convenience of fast food, but it's also empowering to know how to navigate menus for options that fit my goals without sacrificing satisfaction. For those looking for 'lent fast meals,' finding quick and satisfying options that are also meatless can be a bit of a challenge in the fast-food world. While my beloved chicken nuggets aren't an option during Lent, I've discovered a few hacks. Many places offer fish sandwiches (though always check if they're fried in shared oil if that's a concern for you), or you can often piece together a meal from sides. Think about a hearty salad (just be mindful of dressings and toppings!), a baked potato, or even a veggie burger if available. Places like McDonald's or Burger King often have their Filet-O-Fish, while Wendy's might offer a Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich during Lent. Don't forget about options like cheese pizza at various places or even some of the plant-based options that are becoming more widely available, like bean burritos at Taco Bell or certain vegetarian bowls. And of course, a refreshing strawberry milkshake can still be a delightful treat! The key is to plan ahead a little, scout out the vegetarian or pescatarian options on the menu, and remember that sometimes a combination of sides makes a surprisingly fulfilling meal. Now, let’s talk about 'calories' – a common concern when enjoying quick meals. It's super easy for calorie counts to add up quickly with fast food, especially with those tempting sides like waffle fries and creamy milkshakes. I've learned that a little awareness goes a long way. When I'm watching my calories, I try to make small swaps without feeling deprived. For example, opting for grilled nuggets instead of fried can save a significant amount of calories and fat. Swapping out all or even half of my fries for a healthier side like a fruit cup, a side salad with light dressing, or even yogurt can make a huge difference.
