baby Richards is…

one of my friends was our secret keeper and made this FANTASTIC cake to help us find out the gender of our baby. we wanted to do something special, yet intimate for just us. what a way to spend a Saturday night!

we found out our sweet baby is a boy🩵💙

let me tell you… I was CONVINCED it was a girl. from the very beginning. my husband even got on board and kept calling our baby a “she” and when he’d be praying or talking about baby. I was S-H-O-C-K-E-D to find out it is a boy!

we are so thrilled and just overall so thankful to have a healthy baby, regardless of what gender. I’ve loved starting to find all the cutest boy clothes and goodies to make sure our son is stylish and oh-so adorable!

... Read moreOkay, so now that our big gender reveal surprise is out there – it's a boy! 💙 – I've been reflecting on the whole process and wanted to share some thoughts and tips, especially for those of you planning your own! First off, let me tell you, having a gender reveal cake as the centerpiece was just magical. Our friend was our secret keeper and crafted this beautiful cake that looked unassuming on the outside, but held the big secret inside. When we cut into it and saw the vibrant blue inside slice, it was truly an unforgettable moment. If you're thinking about a cake, consider having a trusted friend or baker handle the secret for you – it adds so much to the surprise when even you don't know! It also takes the pressure off you to keep the secret! The whole experience of seeing the "Boy OR Girl?" message on the cake before the cut and then the joyful reveal was just perfect. And the idea of using wine glasses to serve up the cake after the reveal? Pure genius! It made the celebration feel so intimate and special, just for us. It’s a simple touch but really elevated the moment, turning a simple dessert into a celebratory toast. You could even get custom wine glasses etched with your baby's due date or name for a special keepsake. We loved seeing our gender reveal with cake and wine glasses in all the photos! For those wondering how to make their own reveal special, think about what feels authentic to you. We chose an intimate setting, but whether it’s a big party or just a quiet moment like ours, the joy is in the anticipation. Seeing those ultrasound images on the side of our reveal setup really brought home the reality of our little one arriving soon. Since we’re expecting a baby boy, my mind has naturally shifted to thinking about all things baby boy. And, of course, that includes baby shower gifts for a boy! As a first-time mom-to-be, my focus is definitely on what makes daily life easier, safer, and more affordable. I value efficiency, durability, and brands that truly understand the real-life chaos of family life. Some ideas I've been eyeing (or that friends have recommended!) that fit this mindset include: Practical Gear: A good quality stroller that can grow with the baby, a comfortable and safe car seat that's easy to install, and a reliable baby monitor with great battery life are always at the top of the list. Investing in durable items now saves headaches later! Comfy & Durable Clothes: Onesies, sleep sacks, and soft outfits in various sizes. Look for fabrics that hold up well to frequent washing. You can never have too many, especially with a newborn! I’m already having so much fun picking out little blue outfits. Nursery Essentials: A sturdy crib that meets all safety standards, a changing table with plenty of storage, and a comfortable rocking chair for those late-night feedings. Don't forget storage solutions like bins and shelves for all those adorable tiny clothes and toys. Diapering Supplies: Diapers (stock up!), sensitive wipes, and a good barrier cream. This is one area where you can't over-prepare, and having a good stock means fewer last-minute dashes to the store. Books: Start a library early! Board books and soft-touch books are wonderful for little ones. They're durable and perfect for tiny hands. Personalized Items: A custom blanket or a piece of nursery art can be a really thoughtful and cherished gift. Something that feels unique and special. Remember, the most important thing is a healthy baby, but embracing the journey and sharing these special moments, like cutting into that gender reveal cake blue inside slice and toasting with our wine glass cake reveal, really makes it all so much more memorable. It's truly a thrilling time, and I'm so excited for everything that's to come with our little man! 🍼✨
