Wow, what a journey it's been! Finally touching down in sunny California feels like a dream after that brisk layover in Denver – you could literally see my breath on the jet bridge, it was -4! I was truly thankful God got us to our layover safely, and even more so to finally say, 'HELLO CALI!' This trip is more than just a vacation; it's a 'DAY 19 of 30 HEART TO JESUS TRAVEL EDITION,' a time to embrace vulnerability and practice gratitude for every moment. Now that I've 'made it,' my focus is on diving deep into the cultural heart of Santa Monica. It's not just about hitting the famous spots, but truly experiencing the local vibe. For me, a cultural experience here means soaking up the unique blend of beach life, art, and community that makes Santa Monica so special. I’m thinking beyond just sightseeing; I want to connect with the place and its people. One of the first things I plan to do is embrace the 'PRAYER/HOT GIRL WALK' on the iconic Santa Monica Pier or along the beach path. It’s a fantastic way to get those steps in, clear my head, and really observe the daily life unfolding around me – from street performers to local artists, and the vibrant energy of people enjoying the ocean. This active lifestyle is a huge part of Californian culture, and I'm excited to immerse myself in it. The food scene is another cultural tapestry I can't wait to explore. While I might regret all these carbs from my layover meal, the balance of eggs & bacon made it a little better, and of course, I had to get a green tea! Here in Santa Monica, I’m keen to prioritize protein and discover local eateries, perhaps a fresh seafood spot near the pier or a farmers' market for some organic, local produce. The Downtown Santa Monica Farmers Market is on my list – it's not just food, it's a community gathering, offering a true taste of California's agricultural bounty and local craftsmanship. It's where you can truly feel the pulse of the city. I’m also excited to explore the artistic side of Santa Monica. From unexpected murals to public sculptures, and the local galleries, there's so much creative energy. Walking around, I’ll be keeping an eye out for those unique spots that tell a story, reflecting on each discovery. This entire trip is about being 'unfiltered,' open to whatever comes my way, and finding beauty in the everyday.
