It was an honor to @makebigtalk with Anderson Cooper!!! Anderson is someone I’ve admired for his curiosity, kindness, and courage since I first aspired to become a journalist that leads with empathy for humanity.
When I was working to share stories during the LA Fires, Anderson DM’d me and I couldn’t believe it! This is a full circle moment and one of the biggest honors of my journey with Big Talk so far.
Having followed Anderson Cooper’s career for years, I’ve always admired not just his professionalism but the genuine empathy he brings to his journalism. His courage in sharing difficult stories and his ability to connect on a human level have been deeply inspiring to me. When I got the unexpected direct message from Anderson during the LA Fires, it felt surreal and profoundly validating—a reminder of why I embarked on this path to lead with compassion. During times of crisis like the LA Fires, storytelling takes on a critical role in offering solace and understanding. It’s not just about reporting facts but about giving voice to those directly impacted, honoring their pain and resilience. Through Make Big Talk, I strive to create that safe space where people can openly share their darkest moments and how they found strength to overcome them. The conversation with Anderson reminded me how important it is to face and process pain rather than avoid it. The shared experience of loss and wanting to leave meaningful messages for loved ones resonates with so many, including myself. Writing letters for my family and reflecting on the legacies we carry is a deeply personal practice that I recommend to anyone grappling with grief. Connecting with empathetic listeners—whether journalists like Anderson or the wider community—helps us feel less alone. It encourages authenticity and vulnerability, essential ingredients for profound human connection. This encounter has been one of the most rewarding moments in my journey with Big Talk, reinforcing my belief in the power of kindness and courage in storytelling.
