Then the rock types like Geodude and Onyx, described as 'hard, not-nice-to-touch boys and girls' – priceless! I totally cracked up when he accepted Tangela into a higher tier because of its tentacles, pointing out what the internet has apparently taught him. And the legendary birds? 'Pretty hot, but with a celebrity complex' – a description I never knew I needed for Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres! But the real shocker for me, and for Zach too, was his ultimate pick for the number one spot: Dragonair. A 'big mystical snake with a horn that flies' that will make you 'feel like you’re in love.' It’s such an unexpected choice, but after his explanation, I kind of get it! It definitely made me look at Dragonair in a whole new light. Now, while Zach's ranking is all in good fun and purely subjective desirability, if you're like me and also a serious Pokémon trainer, you might have been thinking, 'But what about Dragonair's actual weaknesses in battle?' Because let's be honest, in the world of Pokémon battles, even the most 'f*ckable' Pokémon can have a bad day against the right opponent. Dragonair, with its pure Dragon typing, is a beautiful and elegant Pokémon, but it does come with a few strategic vulnerabilities you need to know to make it shine in combat. Its main weakness is Ice-type moves. Anything with Ice Beam, Blizzard, or even a strong Ice Shard is going to hit Dragonair for super effective damage. I've had many a Dragonair swept by a well-placed Ice attack from a Jolteon or even a dedicated Ice-type like Lapras (the 'boat' can fight back!). Additionally, Dragon-type moves are also super effective against other Dragon-types. So, if you're facing another Dragonair, or a potent Dragonite, Altaria, or Garchomp, be prepared for a tough fight where both sides are hitting hard. Fairy-type Pokémon were introduced later in the games, and they completely resist Dragon-type attacks, making them a safe switch-in against Dragonair. While Dragonair isn't directly weak to Fairy attacks, its Dragon-type moves won't do anything to them, which can be a real problem if you're relying on its STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) moves. Steel-type Pokémon also resist Dragon-type attacks, so while they don't hit Dragonair for super effective damage, they can wall its primary offense. Thinking about its abilities, Shed Skin can be great for recovering from status conditions, but it doesn't help with type matchups. Overall, to get the most out of your Dragonair in battle, you'll want to pair it with Pokémon that can cover its Ice and Dragon weaknesses, perhaps a strong Fire-type or a Steel-type.
