Palmier Hotel Da Nang Review 🇻🇳 | Stunning Fireworks Views But…
We booked Palmier Hotel Da Nang because it is one of the more affordable hotels located along the beautiful Han River, offering front-row views of the famous Saturday night fireworks. Thanks to its excellent location and stunning river-facing rooms, the hotel remains quite popular, and room rates can be surprisingly premium despite being categorized as a budget-friendly property.
For our stay, we booked two rooms. The first was a river-view room for my mother and children, as we wanted to enjoy the fireworks directly from the room while also celebrating my eldest son’s birthday. Fortunately, that room turned out to be quite pleasant. It was spacious, featured a bathtub, and provided lovely views of the river. The overall condition was decent, although the air conditioning felt slightly underpowered. The window design was also somewhat restrictive, with only one section of the three-panel window able to open at any given time, and only by a small amount, limiting natural ventilation.
The room came with two very small complimentary bottles of drinking water. Additional regular-sized bottled water, soft drinks, and snacks were available for purchase. While the prices were reasonable, the tiny complimentary water bottles felt a little inconvenient, especially when traveling with children. At one point, we drank two of the larger bottles provided in the room and later replaced them with identical bottles purchased from a nearby convenience store after stocking up on supplies.
While my mother’s room was generally satisfactory, my own room was unfortunately a different story. After returning late at night from the fireworks, I discovered that the air conditioner was not functioning properly. By then, requesting a room change was quite inconvenient. The room remained uncomfortably warm throughout the night, and I ended up relying on two portable fans just to get some sleep.
The bathroom also showed signs of aging. Both the rainfall shower head and handheld shower had visible rust, and the handle on the glass shower door was broken. These issues, while not deal-breakers individually, collectively made the room feel overdue for maintenance and refurbishment.
The next morning, after a long and uncomfortable night, we requested a room change. Since we had only booked the river-view room for one night, my mother and children also moved to a standard room similar to ours.
One aspect that truly stood out during our stay was the exceptional service. The hotel staff genuinely went above and beyond to assist us and make our stay as comfortable as possible. Throughout our travels in Vietnam, we have consistently been impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the people, and Palmier Hotel’s staff were no exception.
Our replacement rooms were better overall, although still somewhat dated and clearly in need of modernization. Unfortunately, my streak of bad luck continued. The bathroom in my new room had a strong sewage odor coming from the drainage system. The smell was quite unpleasant and at times difficult to ignore. When we informed the staff, they responded quickly and provided an essential oil diffuser, which helped temporarily, but only masked the odor for a couple of hours.
Another minor but frustrating incident occurred during checkout. The hotel initially charged us for an extra bottle of mineral water that we had already replaced with the exact same brand and size after consuming the original bottle from the room. The staff eventually verified the situation and corrected the charge, but it took some time and created unnecessary inconvenience. It was never about the small amount of money involved, but rather the avoidable hassle during checkout.
Overall, Palmier Hotel Da Nang has several strengths that make it worth considering. Its location is fantastic, the river views are beautiful, and the staff provide genuinely excellent service. These are significant advantages, especially for travelers hoping to enjoy the Han River atmosphere and Da Nang’s weekend fireworks.
That said, the hotel would greatly benefit from room renovations and more consistent maintenance. Addressing issues such as faulty air conditioning, rusty bathroom fixtures, broken fittings, and sewage odors would significantly improve the guest experience. If these improvements were made, I would happily return for the location, views, and outstanding hospitality alone.
