🇻🇳 Smile Hotel Nha Trang Review

Smile Hotel in Nha Trang left me with rather mixed feelings. On one hand, it offers exceptional value for money, making it a very attractive option for travelers looking for an affordable stay without sacrificing too much comfort. On the other hand, there are several small details that, if improved, could significantly elevate the overall guest experience.

The hotel’s location is another strong point. Although it isn’t situated directly on one of the main roads, everything remains within a comfortable walking distance, and I don’t think most visitors would mind the short stroll.

When Kelia arrived earlier, the lobby was packed with guests checking in, so the reception area felt a little chaotic. The staff were clearly trying their best to manage everyone. I arrived around the official check-in time at 2:00 PM and had to wait a little while because they were still fixing the air conditioner in our room. While the delay wasn’t ideal, I appreciated that they were making sure everything was working properly before handing over the room.

We booked the Suite on the top floor, and I was genuinely impressed. The room was incredibly spacious with beautiful views over Nha Trang. One feature I particularly liked was the mini kitchenette, complete with a microwave oven and electric hob, making it suitable even for longer stays or guests who want to prepare simple meals. There were also plenty of electrical outlets around the bed, which is always something I appreciate when travelling with multiple devices. The room even came with a dedicated makeup table, another thoughtful touch.

For the price we paid, it’s honestly difficult to complain too much.

The swimming pool is located on the 16th floor. Do note that the final level is only accessible via stairs. Our booking did not include breakfast, but it can be added at a very reasonable price if needed. As for the staff, my experience was mixed. Some were genuinely warm and welcoming, while others felt a little more reserved.

One unexpected highlight of our stay was NK Nails, located right beside the hotel. Despite its name, it offers one of the best-value massages we’ve experienced in Nha Trang. I believe it originally started as a nail salon before expanding into spa services, and I would highly recommend giving it a try.

There are, however, several areas where I believe Smile Hotel could improve.

Although the kitchenette is well-equipped, there is only one electrical socket above the cooking hob. It’s positioned too high to conveniently use with other appliances such as an electric kettle, making something as simple as boiling water unnecessarily inconvenient.

The complimentary bottled water also came in two very small bottles, barely enough for a cup each. It would be much more guest-friendly if the hotel provided two standard 500ml bottles instead.

Our suite only came with two pillows, whereas many hotels today provide four for added comfort. There was also no facial tissue in the room, which feels like a basic amenity that most guests would expect.

The bathroom design also needs some attention. While the transparent glass concept looks modern, the curtain is too short and doesn’t fully close, resulting in limited privacy. The shower setup was probably our biggest inconvenience. The handheld shower is attached to the bathtub with a very short hose and, more importantly, there isn’t a wall-mounted holder for it. This meant one hand constantly had to hold the showerhead while showering, forcing us to either sit inside the bathtub or bend over awkwardly. Simply installing a longer hose together with a shower holder would make a tremendous difference.

Another issue was an unused water outlet in the bathroom that continuously dripped throughout our stay, leaving the area around the toilet permanently wet.

The room could also get quite noisy at times, although that’s somewhat understandable given how lively and vibrant Nha Trang is.

One unfortunate incident happened during our stay when my girlfriend unexpectedly got her period while sleeping, resulting in two small spots of blood on the bedsheet. It was completely accidental. The hotel later left a letter in our room requesting a cleaning fee of around 50,000 VND.

The amount itself is perfectly reasonable, and we were more than happy to pay it. What left a slight bitter taste was the way it was communicated. Receiving a written notice placed on the bed felt more like a warning than a conversation. For such a small charge resulting from an honest accident, I think a simple and friendly discussion at the front desk would have created a much warmer experience. Small gestures of understanding often leave a lasting impression and can turn an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to build goodwill and guest loyalty.

Overall, Smile Hotel is still a hotel I would recommend, especially for travellers seeking excellent value in Nha Trang. The spacious rooms, convenient location and affordable pricing make it an attractive choice. With a few thoughtful improvements to the room facilities, bathroom design and guest communication, I genuinely believe this hotel has the potential to become one of the best value-for-money stays in the city.
