New storage shelf for the planer
The painting is done on this tray that I made for the Oliver Machinery 8” helical head planer. It's probably the nicest paint job in my garage. I used the Graco Ultra Quick Shot sprayer to put two coats of black paint on this. This was a very quick spray job with the Quick Shot.
The Oliver planer stand is nice and sturdy, but it's always great to have more storage.

Creating additional storage solutions for woodworking equipment like the Oliver 8” helical head planer can significantly improve your workspace efficiency. When I built my custom shelf, I made sure it was sturdy enough to hold tools and accessories I frequently use with the planer. This convenience means less time searching foritems and more focused work. Painting the shelf using the Graco Ultra Quick Shot sprayer was a game-changer. The sprayer offers quick application and a smooth, professional finish which is hard to achieve with brushes or rollers. Applying two coats of black paint not only enhanced the look but also added a durable protective layer against wear and tear in a busy workshop environment. If you own an Oliver planer model such as the one with the 8” helical cutter head, adding a shelf directly onto or near the stand allows you to keep blades, measuring tools, and maintenance items right at hand. This can be especially beneficial for repeated use and quick adjustments. In my experience, the combination of a well-built shelf and quality paint sprayer like the Graco Ultra Quick Shot really uplifts the space’s functionality and appearance. It’s always satisfying to see your woodworking tools both organized and displayed attractively with a professional finish. I recommend DIY enthusiasts to consider similar storage enhancements tailored to their unique setups to maximize their workspace.
