Bowl cut Jenny bit
I am using the bowl cut Jenny bit from Cadence Manufacturing to cut a shallow tray into this piece of canary wood. This is a 1/2” diameter bit with a 1/8” flat spot so the bottom of your trays come out with a perfectly flat bottom. The bit radius gives you a nice grounded edge around the bottom of your tray so you can easily pick things up.

When working on woodworking projects that require precision trays or shallow depressions, the choice of cutting tools plays a vital role in the final outcome. From my experience using the Bowl Cut Jenny bit, its design really stands out for creating trays with perfectly flat bottoms thanks to that unique 1/8” flat spot. This feature ensures that whatever you place in your tray sits evenly without tipping or wobbling. One aspect that I appreciate is the bit’s radius, which gently rounds the edges at the bottom of the tray. This thoughtful shape not only makes the tray visually appealing but also user-friendly, as it provides a solid, grounded edge for easy handling and lifting. I experimented with several types of wood, but working with canary wood — known for its fine grain and smooth finish — produced particularly stunning results using this bit. If you're using CNC machines for crafting trays, bowls, or even catchall pieces, the Bowl Cut Jenny bit from Cadence Manufacturing offers a reliable and consistent cut to enhance your project’s quality. The 1/2” diameter strikes a good balance between detail and efficiency, allowing you to shape the wood without excessive passes. In my projects, having a bit that reliably produces a flat base and rounded edge helps ensure each piece looks professional and functions well in everyday use. Additionally, the bit's design minimizes the need for extra sanding or finishing inside the tray, saving time and effort during post-processing. Overall, incorporating the Bowl Cut Jenny bit into your woodworking toolkit can elevate your craftsmanship, especially when working on shallow trays or shallow bowl shapes. It’s a handy tool for CNC woodworkers seeking precision and smooth finishes with less manual intervention.
