Having followed the work of the Malala Fund for some time, I am truly inspired by the leadership of Nabila Aguele as their first global CEO based in Nigeria. What stands out most is her multifaceted background—as a lawyer, advocate, activist, artist, and mother—which brings a uniquely holistic approach to tackling the global challenge of girls' education. Her role in leading grantmaking and advocacy to support nearly 9.5 million out-of-school Nigerian girls is critical. From my own experience volunteering in education-focused NGOs, I’ve seen how localized leadership deeply understands the cultural and systemic barriers girls face. Nabila’s position enables her to tailor strategies that resonate within communities while aligning with Malala Fund’s global vision. Moreover, her commitment to ensuring access to 12 years of quality education highlights a vital mission for long-term empowerment. It reminds me of stories from schools I’ve visited where sustained education has transformed future opportunities for girls, breaking cycles of poverty and inequality. Nabila’s leadership also signals a broader shift in how global organizations empower voices from within key regions, ensuring that advocacy reflects lived realities.
