French onion soup. 🧅🤤💖🥖🧀

ITS SOUP SEASON BABY !! My favorite time of the year I love comfort foods and soup. I used this recipe to jog my memory even tho I’m a pro 👩🏽‍🍳😆 lol but it turned so good. It’s a labor of love but it’s soooooooo worth it.

Basically you prep a bunch of onions and then add butter to a heavy bottomed pot once it’s melted add in your onions and let the sauté. Stir it often and then let it start to caramelized don’t let it burn! Low and slow so have the burner medium-high This will be about 30-60mins depending on how big of a batch you’re making. Once the onions turn a bit brown add garlic cook for couple mins. After a couple mins cooking garlic add in white wine to deglaze the pan. Put in flour and mix it really good. Make sure the burner is on med low during this. Last steps for the soup is adding stock or broth, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves, fresh or dried thyme season to taste also. Bring it to a simmer and cover it with a lid. 🤤👩🏽‍🍳✨💖

Make sure you toast your French bread 🥖 beforehand you can buy it precut depending on your store if not you can cut it however you please . I got precut and they were the perfect size 🤤

preheat oven 350 and cook bread for 5 mins or till the edges are brown. 🥣

When you are ready to serve the soup add as much bread into the soup and top it with cheese and put the oven on broiler to melt the cheese 🧀 I used smoked flavored provolone on top and an Italian blend inside. I put 2-3 pieces of bread 🍞

... Read moreFrench onion soup is a classic dish cherished for its depth of flavor and comforting warmth, making it perfect for chilly evenings. To start, selecting the right onions is crucial—yellow onions are recommended for their natural sweetness when caramelized. The slow cooking process, which can take 30 to 60 minutes, allows the onions to develop a rich, deep flavor that's the hallmark of a great French onion soup. Additionally, using a good quality stock enhances the soup's savory profile; beef stock is traditional, but vegetable stock also works beautifully. Don't forget to season your soup with fresh or dried thyme, which adds an aromatic touch. When the soup is nearly ready, the topping is equally important. A generous layer of cheese—whether Gruyere, Mozzarella, or a blend—creates that signature, gooey crust that pairs wonderfully with the warm, toasted bread. Broiling it just before serving gives that perfect golden finish. Enjoying a bowl of homemade French onion soup is more than just a meal; it’s an experience of comfort and indulgence.
