Chisme update: 2/27/26
Cheese is doing ok post op. Her wounds look good but we’re running into an issue. She’s knuckling over still. This could mean a few things- the nerve block is still affecting her, the swelling is still too much, or, unfortunately they may not have the X-Fix at the correct angle and may need to go back and work on it again.
The care team will give us another update tomorrow. If the anesthesia team is needed to adjust the X-Fix, it will likely have to wait until Monday.
Thank you to everyone that has reached out, prayed, or contributed to our fundraisers!
They will continue going as we are still looking at $15000 or so for everything.
**Any funds over the cost of her care will be donated to our local animal shelter to help care for those souls in need!**

After going through a surgery like Chisme's, it's crucial to understand the complexities of post-operative recovery, especially when nerve blocks and orthopedic devices like the X-Fix are involved. From personal experience with veterinary care, swelling and nerve block effects can sometimes mimic signs of hardware issues, such as improper angle placement. This can cause symptoms like knuckling over, as mentioned in Chisme's update. Managing pain and swelling effectively is essential for proper healing. Monitoring by the care team and frequent follow-ups are vital in catching any complications early. Waiting for specialists or anesthesiologists to readjust devices can feel frustrating but is often necessary for long-term success. Additionally, animal surgeries can be quite costly, often mounting to thousands of dollars. Fundraising efforts like raffles, online donations, and sales can make a big difference not just for animal owners, but also support broader animal welfare causes when extra funds contribute to shelters. It’s heartwarming to see the community rally around Chisme with prayers, donations, and support. For those supporting similar cases, sharing fundraising links widely and engaging with local networks can accelerate reaching financial goals. Transparency about progress and costs also helps build trust and encourages continued participation. Overall, patience and community involvement prove invaluable in navigating the healing journey after complex surgeries, both for the animal’s wellbeing and the associated expenses.
