Here is a repost of Cheeses 2/27 update!
Chisme update: 2/27/26
Cheese is doing ok post op. Her wounds look good but we’re running into an issue. She’s knuckling over still. This could mean a few things- the nerve block is still affecting her, the swelling is still too much, or, unfortunately they may not have the X-Fix at the correct angle and may need to go back and work on it again.
The care team will give us another update tomorrow. If the anesthesia team is needed to adjust the X-Fix, it will likely have to wait until Monday.
Thank you to everyone that has reached out, prayed, or contributed to our fundraisers!
They will continue going as we are still looking at $15000 or so for everything.
**Any funds over the cost of her care will be donated to our local animal shelter to help care for those souls in need!**

Having been involved in similar cases, I understand how challenging post-operative recovery can be for pets like Chisme. It’s common for symptoms such as knuckling over to arise due to nerve blocks or swelling, which can be part of the healing process. Sometimes, orthopedic devices like an X-Fix may require adjustments to ensure proper alignment and recovery. During this period, it’s important to maintain close communication with the veterinary care team to monitor progress and address any complications promptly. Fundraising plays a crucial role in managing the often steep costs of surgery and aftercare. Contributing to raffles, direct donations, or purchasing gear not only helps with immediate medical bills but also supports the welfare of other animals in need through donations to local shelters. If you’re caring for a pet recovering from surgery, consider creating a network of support with friends or online communities. Sharing updates regularly helps keep donors engaged and can provide moral support. Many pet owners find comfort in knowing they’re not alone in this journey and that their pet has a village rooting for their recovery. Additionally, understanding the typical healing timeline can ease anxiety. Nerve blocks typically wear off within days, and swelling can fluctuate before improvement. If issues persist, re-evaluation by the surgical and anesthesia teams ensures that any hardware is functioning correctly to support healing. Donors and supporters are encouraged to keep nurturing hope and sharing resources that can aid in care. Whether through sharing fundraiser links or spreading awareness, every effort contributes to a positive outcome for beloved pets like Chisme.
