For those keeping up with Chismes journey- here’s a positive update. Though her soft cast refused to stay on correctly, and came off a few days early- she’s been thriving since her #externalfixator removal.
We are just shy of 2 months since she broke her patella and wrecked all of the tendons surrounding it.
I think this looks absolutely amazing considering the trauma she went through.
What an amazing puppy to be able to shine throughout the whole process and still be so happy and kind.
Having witnessed a dog go through a complex recovery like Chisme's, I can attest to the transformative power of proper rehabilitation and care. External fixators, though sometimes challenging to manage due to issues like cast slippage, provide critical support for serious bone injuries like a patella fracture. The patella, or kneecap, plays a vital role in a dog's mobility, and injuries here require meticulous treatment to restore function. In my experience, post-removal care is just as important as the surgical phase. Encouraging gradual weight-bearing and mobility helps rebuild strength in the tendons surrounding the patella. Consistent physical therapy, including controlled exercises and hydrotherapy when possible, accelerates healing and restores joint flexibility. It’s impressive how some working dog breeds like Malinois show remarkable resilience, maintaining a positive attitude that can inspire their caregivers. Moreover, emotional wellbeing plays a significant role in recovery. Keeping the dog happy and mentally engaged with gentle play and attention facilitates overall healing. Chisme’s story highlights not only medical intervention’s success but also the deep bond and attentive rehabilitation efforts that make such remarkable recoveries possible. For anyone caring for a pup with similar injuries, patience, dedication, and expert guidance in canine rehabilitation are key to helping your furry friend thrive again.
