Acne Journey - Full Transparency!!

Good morning lemons!!

Yesterday I decided to go back to square 1 and start my acne journey over… yet again… 😭 I know this is something tons of people struggle with so I wanted to share every bit of my journey in full transparency + share any tips and tricks I learn along the way.

I had a consultation with a medical aesthetician yesterday plus my first ever chemical peel! During my visit we decided to stop any and all skincare I was currently doing and start fresh. She did an evaluation and decided to do a light chemical peel to see where my sensitivity level is. It was a little tingly but I handled it well! In addition, I’m going to start a brand new routine and brand new products that are all created for acne.

She has me starting with Face Reality products and gave me some bonus tips too.

1. Custom AM and PM routine based on my skins needs and also recommended I used Nizoral shampoo in place of cleanser 2-3x a week. Use a small amount and let it foam on my face for a minute before rinsing.

2. Use soft microfiber towels with warm water to wipe my makeup off before cleansing.

3. Switch my makeup to mineral based! This step is tough because I love my current products but I’m going to research some new ones.

4. Use a cleansing device to gently wash my face. This gets your skin cleaner than your hands can and is gentle to prevent micro tears in the skin. I got a silicon gentle face scrubber from Amazon.

5. Single use towels to dry my skin! Also from Amazon.

6. Finally, start taking 30mg of zinc. Beware though, if taken on an empty stomach it will make you nauseous. I learned the hard way after throwing up 😔 so just take it after a full meal!

This is a pretty informative and lengthy post so if you made it this far, you are probably in the same boat as me and really struggling and searching for answers anywhere you can get them. Patience and consistency is what will make a difference. Find a medical aesthetician or dermatologist who fits your needs and follow their professional advice.

** note: I had been going to two dermatologists for 5 years before switching paths. I wasn’t seeing results and should have switched sooner, no need to expose your skin to chemicals that aren’t giving you results.

... Read moreNavigating through an acne journey can be overwhelming, but with the right approach, clarity and effectiveness can be achieved. Consulting with a qualified medical aesthetician is crucial to receiving a tailored treatment plan that works for your unique skin type. Chemical peels like the light peel I experienced can help in managing breakouts by exfoliating the skin and improving its texture. Additionally, integrating specialized products such as Face Reality can make a significant difference in your skincare regimen. It's essential to adopt consistent practices, such as a personalized morning and night routine, to cater to your skin's needs. The use of gentle tools like silicon face scrubbers may enhance cleansing effectiveness while minimizing irritation. Switching to mineral-based makeup might be challenging, but it can ultimately benefit your skin by reducing the potential for breakouts. Don't forget the importance of supplements, such as zinc; however, it's vital to take them with food to avoid discomfort. Using single-use towels and soft microfiber options to dry your face can help maintain hygiene and prevent the spread of bacteria. Remember, patience is key in your skincare journey—stay committed to the path towards clearer skin and consult professionals to ensure you're on the right track.
