Appalachian Strong

A love letter to Appalachia…

You raised me. I’ve always been so proud of that. When people would scoff or chuckle a bit at my accent, I made the southern draw even stronger with pride.

These mountains run deep in my veins, and I never wanted anyone to forget that.

You’re often associated with poverty, ignorance and scarcity, but I’ve always seen quite the opposite.

Strength, survival, self reliance when needed and neighbors within a rocks throw if you need them too.

I learned to dance to your heartbeat, clogging since I could move my feet fast enough and sang your music at the top of my lungs. Songs as unique as the land.

And your land… I’ve always called you Abundant Appalachia. Food and medicine within reach almost all year long once I took the time to learn your secrets of where you hid it ;)

Your rolling hills, peaks, rivers, rock faces, seasons, and stories are nothing short of magical. There’s no wonder why so much folklore surrounds your name.

I love you Appalachia. I love every one of my neighbors who are hurting right now, and I will do everything in my power to help. We are actively creating a long term, sustainable assistance plan we can offer because I’m forever in your debt and ready to support you for the rest of my days.

Appalachia, you are strong. You are resilient. You will rise back up. And we are here for the entire journey.
