Finally Got My Pink Back
I am finally 1 year post partum & starting to feel like myself again🩷 #postpartumjourney #postpartum #gotmypinkback
It's truly amazing how a year can fly by, yet some days feel like an eternity, especially when you're navigating the incredible, messy, and beautiful journey of postpartum life. When I first heard the phrase 'got my pink back,' it resonated deeply with me because it perfectly describes that elusive feeling of starting to feel like 'you' again after the whirlwind of pregnancy and childbirth. For me, 'getting my pink back' wasn't just about physical recovery, though that's certainly a huge part of it. It was about regaining my mental clarity, my emotional balance, my energy, and even my passion for the little things I used to love. The first few months postpartum were a blur of sleepless nights and feeding schedules, and honestly, I felt like a muted version of myself. My vibrant 'pink' had faded to a dull grey. I realized that reclaiming my 'pink' was going to be a marathon, not a sprint. I started with tiny, almost imperceptible steps. Instead of aiming for big, overwhelming goals, I focused on small, consistent habits. For instance, I made it a point to step outside for 10-15 minutes every day, even if it was just to breathe in the fresh air. Sometimes I’d listen to a podcast, other times I’d just observe the clouds. This simple act helped clear my head and reconnect with the outside world. Nutrition also played a crucial role. I wasn't looking to diet, but rather to fuel my body with foods that would genuinely give me energy. Simple, wholesome meals became my focus, and I noticed a significant difference in my energy levels and mood. Gentle movement also helped; instead of jumping into intense workouts, I started with short walks and some postnatal yoga. It was less about burning calories and more about feeling strong and capable in my own skin again. Mentally, the biggest challenge was learning to be kind to myself. The self-doubt and 'mom guilt' can be intense. I started journaling, just a few sentences each day, to process my thoughts and feelings. It helped me acknowledge that it's okay to have hard days and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I also made an effort to connect with other moms, sharing our struggles and triumphs, which made me feel so much less alone. Self-care, to me, transformed from something luxurious to something essential. It wasn't about spa days (though those are lovely!), but about carving out moments in my day that were just for me. This could be a hot shower without interruption, listening to my favorite music while doing chores, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea before the baby woke up. These small moments recharged my battery and helped me feel like an individual, not just 'mom.' It’s a journey of rediscovery, learning to embrace the new version of myself while holding onto the essence of who I was before. And slowly but surely, that vibrant 'pink' has started to shine through again. If you're on a similar path, remember to be patient with yourself, celebrate every small victory, and know that you absolutely will get your 'pink back' too.
