The Chosen: “Followers”Sermon Studies

Hey everyone! 👋 As a huge fan of 'The Chosen' series, I've been diving into some powerful sermon studies inspired by their incredible portrayal of Jesus and His followers. It's truly amazing how watching the show can deepen your understanding of these biblical figures. Today, I wanted to share some of my personal notes and reflections, especially on characters that deeply resonated with me, like Mary Magdalene and Nicodemus, as well as some others who played pivotal roles in Jesus' ministry. First up, Mary Magdalene. Her story, as depicted in 'The Chosen,' is just so raw and relatable. My studies really focused on her journey from a past of deep struggle to incredible freedom through Jesus' acceptance. It's a beautiful reminder that no matter our background, Jesus sees us, calls us by name, and offers a path from bondage to truth. I particularly loved reflecting on John 20:15-16, where Jesus calls her name – it’s such an intimate, personal moment that speaks volumes about His love and how He knows us individually. Her transformation from despair to being the first witness of the resurrection is truly moving. Then there's Nicodemus, a figure who fascinates me. As a religious leader, he had so much to lose, yet his encounters with Jesus left an undeniable mark. My notes explored his secret discipleship – how he sought Jesus out by night, wrestling with His teachings and even questioning being "born again." It’s a powerful lesson in seeking truth, even when it challenges everything you thought you knew. His courage to eventually participate in Jesus' burial, as shown in 'The Chosen,' highlights a profound transformation from cautious seeker to devoted follower. It makes me think about our own willingness to step out in faith, even when it's uncomfortable or against the grain. But the insights don't stop there! I also spent time studying other incredible followers. Simon Peter’s journey from a rough fisherman to a bold declarer of Christ is so inspiring. His declaration of Jesus as Messiah, despite his later denials, and his eventual unwavering courage are powerful. The Samaritan Woman's story, where Jesus takes the initiative to bridge physical and spiritual needs and addresses her past with such grace, is a testament to His universal love and willingness to break social norms. Matthew’s logical nature, and how God gifts us uniquely, really spoke to me about finding our purpose even in unexpected callings. And Simon the Zealot's story reminds us about redirecting zeal and passion towards sharing the Gospel, rather than just our own agendas, and the importance of being zealous for God's purposes. What I love most about studying 'The Chosen' alongside the Bible is how it brings these characters to life and helps me find new meaning in familiar scriptures. Each sermon study offers a fresh perspective on faith, forgiveness, and following Jesus. It’s not just about watching a show; it’s about engaging with the stories and letting them transform your own walk with Christ.
