Audubon Aquarium - New Orleans, LA

2024/12/12 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I just got back from an amazing trip to New Orleans, and I absolutely have to tell you about my visit to the Audubon Aquarium. Located right on 1 Canal St, it's super easy to get to and truly a highlight if you're looking for things to do in NOLA. I'd been wanting to check out the acuario de new orleans for ages, and it totally lived up to the hype! Walking in, I was immediately struck by the sheer diversity of marine life. They have everything from majestic sharks gliding through massive tanks to colorful reef fish darting around. My personal favorite was the Gulf of Mexico exhibit – it really makes you appreciate the local aquatic ecosystems. You can spend hours just watching the graceful movements of the stingrays and the powerful presence of the larger fish. It’s not just about seeing cool creatures; it’s an immersive experience that gives you a deeper connection to the ocean. But here’s a tip you might not realize: your ticket often includes entry to the Audubon Insectarium too! I almost missed this gem, but I'm so glad I didn't. It's a short walk away, and it’s unlike any other insect museum I’ve ever been to. From giant beetles to fascinating tarantulas, the exhibits are incredibly well-designed. I even saw some really cool displays about insect anatomy, like the detailed sections on a BUG HEAD THORAX HINDWING CLAW – it sounds technical, but it was presented in such an engaging way, making you appreciate the intricate design of these tiny creatures. They even have a butterfly garden where you can walk among hundreds of beautiful butterflies! It’s such a unique addition and definitely worth exploring if you’re at the aquarium. To make the most of your visit, I’d suggest going on a weekday morning if you can. It tends to be less crowded, giving you more time and space to enjoy each exhibit without feeling rushed. I also recommend checking their website for special events or feeding times, as those can add an extra layer of excitement to your day. If you're a frequent visitor or planning to explore other Audubon attractions, looking into their AQUARIUM CHARTER MEMBERS P (or similar membership passes) could save you some money in the long run. Don't forget comfy shoes, because you'll be doing a lot of walking, especially if you visit both the aquarium and the insectarium. There are also plenty of food options nearby at 1 Canal St, so you can easily grab a bite before or after your aquatic adventure. Overall, my trip to the Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium was an absolute blast. It’s a perfect spot for families, solo explorers, or anyone who loves marine life and wants to learn more about the incredible world of insects. Definitely add this to your New Orleans itinerary – you won't regret it!
