Dollywood Day!

Okay, so our recent Dollywood trip for the Flower & Food Festival was a bit of a mixed bag, as I shared! But let's dig into some of the things you should know if you're planning your own adventure, especially with little ones. First off, those Dollywood spring festival decorations? Absolutely stunning! Everywhere you look, there are incredible floral displays. We saw gorgeous topiary sculptures – from the sweet mother bear and her cubs to a playful frog reaching for an insect, and even a massive butterfly made of plants and flowers. The main entrance to the SHOWSTREET PALACE THEATER was just bursting with color with its 'Dollywood Flower & Food Festival' sign! It really transforms the park. And those colorful umbrellas suspended overhead? They not only look amazing but provide some much-needed shade on a sunny day. When it comes to Dollywood trip planning, especially if you're bringing kids to Tennessee, here’s my two cents. My little Emilee loved the kid rides, like that cute bee-themed ride (which I think is the 'Busy Bees' ride!) and even the blue bird-themed one. But Eliza? She tried one and was done! It's totally okay if your kids aren't thrill-seekers. The park has so much more to offer. Make sure to check the weather and plan for breaks. We were so thankful for the splash pads during our visit – they’re a lifesaver when it gets hot, and it’s a great way for children to cool off and burn some energy. While we didn't get to experience the most famous roller coasters like Lightning Rod or Wild Eagle this trip, because we were focused on Emilee's rides, Dollywood is definitely known for them! If you're into those, plan your day strategically. For families, don't forget about the various shows and craft areas. It really makes Dollywood parks feel complete, offering something for everyone. And keep an eye out for the Dollywood parade route if there's a special event happening; parades add another layer of magic. My biggest takeaway for future Dollywood trips? We definitely want to go back in the fall! The heat during the spring festival was a challenge, even with all the cooling stations. I hear the fall decor is just as spectacular, and the cooler weather would make exploring the whole park, from the western-themed decor in the shops (like that 'NOT EASY BEING A COWGIRL BUT IF THE BOOTS FIT' sign!) to more of the beautiful gardens, much more enjoyable. It's a huge park, and while our day had its bumps, it's still a place that makes family memories.
