So many colors!!

Working as a certified pharmacy technician, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the wide spectrum of pill colors and how they help in the healthcare process. Each pill’s color, shape, and imprint play a crucial role in identifying the medication correctly and preventing errors. For example, Carbamazepine pills, often marked as C100, are typically orange or brown and used to treat seizures and nerve pain. Diltiazem Hydrochloride ER, usually seen with the number 689, is a heart medication that comes in a distinctive color to differentiate it from others. Esomeprazole magnesium delayed-release capsules, labeled 493, treat acid reflux and gastric ulcers and have their unique hue to ensure patient safety. The colors not only aid pharmacists and technicians in quickly identifying medications but also help patients distinguish their prescribed drugs. This is especially important when managing multiple medications daily. In my day-to-day job, seeing these colorful pills is more than just visually appealing—it’s a reminder of the responsibility we hold to provide accurate medication dispensing and counseling. The colors, combined with imprints like R-067 for Oxazepam or N16 for Phentermine capsules, form a vital part of the medication verification process. Loving my job in healthcare means embracing these small details that contribute significantly to patient care and safety.
