My living room decor

I recently finished decorating my living room. I have always lived with roommates in students apartment since 2020 and I finally moved to my first adult apartment in February 2024. It took me 9 months to completly get done decorating. (November 2024)

My dad always told me don’t spend money if you don’t have to and if you do, find the cheapest option especially when it comes to decorating. Now there’s certain thing you should not spend a lot of money and there are other things it good to invest in.

My dad showed me this app called vista, it basically Amazon items that either people returned or items that have been removed from the site, you bid on those items. There’s only one location which is in Charlotte, they do not deliver once you win the item you have to make an appointment to pick it up. I rely on Vista for most of my items for decor.

I bought my projector($80), lamp($15) I also bought the tv stand($10) and the wine rack($5), this saves ne a ton of money

I also went on Facebook market and found this brand new couch this woman wanted to sell only because her husband thinks it a girls couch and it was supoose to be for his gaming room so I reached out to her and did not hesitate. Y’all this is the most comfortable couch I’ve ever owned and it comes apart, I can wash the couch covers when it gets dirty.

In all, if you are decorating your apartment do not spend a ton of money if you have to, you can get quality things for cheaper, just research and find your way. I am so happy the way my apartment turned out☺️

... Read moreBuilding a beautiful, inviting living room, especially your first one, doesn't have to drain your wallet! My journey to create a cozy haven was all about smart choices and a little bit of patience. Beyond the amazing finds on Vista and Facebook Marketplace, there are so many other ways to discover unique pieces that truly speak to your style without breaking the bank, perfectly complementing that comfy white sectional sofa you might find! One of my favorite places to hunt for treasures is local thrift stores or consignment shops. You'd be amazed at the quality of furniture and decor you can uncover – think vintage lamps, unique coffee tables, or even decorative accents like vases and picture frames. Online groups dedicated to local sales or 'buy nothing' communities are also goldmines for free or low-cost items. Remember, a little DIY goes a long way! A fresh coat of paint can transform an old dresser into a stylish TV stand, or even a basic shelf into a statement piece. Don't be afraid to mix and match; it adds character and makes your space feel truly yours. I loved finding my large arched mirror this way; it really opened up the space and reflects all the lovely light. Now, let's talk about setting the mood – and that’s where lighting comes in! It's not just about having one overhead light. Think in layers. Ambient lighting, like the soft purple glow I love, can come from strategically placed LED strips or smart bulbs that change color. Task lighting, such as a stylish floor lamp next to your reading nook or a desk lamp for your laptop workspace, is crucial for functionality. And don't forget accent lighting! Small spotlights on artwork or a charming neon sign can highlight your favorite areas and add personality. I even use a grow light for my potted plants, which doubles as a subtle, functional glow in one corner. Playing with various light sources helps create that truly cozy living room atmosphere, making it feel warm and welcoming, perfect for movie nights with the projector screen. For that dreamy, aesthetic vibe often seen with 'blurry flower' effects in photos, focus on textures and natural elements. Soft throw blankets and pillows on your white sectional sofa, sheer curtains that filter sunlight, and of course, an abundance of lush potted plants can instantly elevate your space. Being a proud 'plant mom' means I constantly look for new ways to incorporate greenery – they bring life and a sense of calm. When it comes to color, don't shy away from incorporating black. While my main pieces are light, a touch of black, like my wall-mounted black wine rack, or sleek picture frames, can add sophistication and ground the space. It creates a beautiful contrast and prevents the room from feeling too sterile. Even a simple 'LOVE sign' or carefully curated vision boards can add meaningful touches that reflect your personality. Finally, practicality is key. My washable couch covers are a lifesaver, especially if you have pets or love to host. Thinking about how you live in your space – whether it's a dedicated desk area for work or a comfy spot for your furry friend's dog crate – helps you design a room that's not just beautiful but truly functional and personal. It's about making your apartment feel like a sanctuary you’ve built with love and clever choices!
