5 mins with God: Day 1

Psalm 146

1. Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord, O my soul!

2. I will praise the Lord as long as I live;

I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

3. Put not your trust in princes,

in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.

4. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;

on that very day his plans perish.

5. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord his God,

6. who made heaven and earth,

the sea, and all that is in them,

who keeps faith forever;

7. who executes justice for the oppressed,

who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;

8. the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.

The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;

the Lord loves the righteous.

9. The Lord watches over the sojourners;

he upholds the widow and the fatherless,

but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

10. The Lord will reign forever,

your God, O Zion, to all generations.

Praise the Lord!

Spend time with your God today, meditate on His word and lean on His understanding.

Spending just 5 minutes before bed allows you to reflect, meditate, and find solace in His presence. The practice of turning to the scriptures, such as Psalm 146, offers a reminder of God's faithfulness and love. This specific Psalm emphasizes trust in God rather than in worldly powers—"Put not your trust in princes"—and highlights His sovereignty over all creation. As you engage in this nightly ritual, consider making it a dedicated practice. Settle into a quiet space, meditate on the verses, and allow the words to resonate within you. This not only fosters a peaceful mindset for sleep but cultivates gratitude and perspective on daily challenges. You might find that these moments provide clarity and rejuvenation for the soul, preparing you for the next day. Moreover, meditating on God's promises as expressed in scripture can lead to increased faith and resilience in difficult times. Remember, it's a personal journey, and everyone’s connection may look different. The important thing is consistency and openness to God's guidance. Enjoy these precious moments as part of your evening routine!
