on of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions 🦃🏈

2024/11/28 Edited to

... Read moreThanksgiving is truly a time for reflection, gratitude, and, for my family, an absolutely essential football showdown! While many families have their unique Thanksgiving traditions, ours revolves firmly around the gridiron. The moment the turkey is out of the oven, our attention shifts to the TV screen, eagerly awaiting kick-off. It’s not just any game; it’s the iconic Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants matchup that has become the beating heart of our holiday celebration. I remember one year, just like the image captured on my screen of the Cowboys leading 13-10 in the second quarter, the game was incredibly close. We were all on the edge of our seats, especially when a player in a blue jersey, number 3, made an incredible play. The tension, the cheers, the groans – it all adds to the vibrant tapestry of our family gathering. It's truly a shared experience that transcends generations. My grandparents, my parents, my siblings, and now even the little ones, all have their favorite players and their predictions for the game. This football tradition isn’t just about the sport itself; it’s about the atmosphere it creates. The aroma of delicious Thanksgiving food – stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie – mingles with the excited chatter and the roar of the crowd from the TV. We set up a dedicated 'snack stadium' filled with game-day favorites alongside our traditional feast. It’s a perfect blend of rich holiday flavors and competitive spirit. For us, the Cowboys vs. Giants game on Thanksgiving isn't just a background activity; it's the main event that anchors our afternoon. It’s a time when we put aside our busy schedules, forget about daily stresses, and simply enjoy each other's company while cheering on our favorite teams. Even if you're not a die-hard fan, the energy is infectious, and it’s impossible not to get swept up in the excitement. This shared passion creates lasting memories and strengthens our family bonds each year. What makes this particular tradition so special is its consistency. No matter where we spend the holiday, or who is able to join, the Thanksgiving football game is a constant. It's a comforting ritual that signals the start of the festive season. We’ve had hilarious debates over referees’ calls, celebrated epic touchdowns with loud cheers, and even consoled each other after tough losses. These moments, both big and small, are what make our holiday truly unique and unforgettable. It's a reminder that sometimes the simplest traditions, like gathering around a TV to watch a game, can be the most meaningful part of our annual celebration.
