Trip to Romania🇷🇴
My trip to Romania was absolutely unforgettable, and one of the biggest highlights had to be exploring Alba Iulia. If you're planning a visit, trust me, the Alba Carolina Citadel is an absolute must-see. I was genuinely blown away by its grandeur and history. As I approached the citadel, the sheer scale of the fortifications was incredible. Passing through the magnificent, ornate stone archways, adorned with intricate sculptures, felt like stepping back in time. Each gate tells a story, and I found myself pausing at every turn to take in the detailed craftsmanship. The daytime views were spectacular, with the blue sky enhancing the ancient stone, but I also made sure to experience the magic of the citadel at night. The illuminated archway leading into the heart of the historic stone tower area was truly enchanting, casting a warm glow over the cobblestone streets as people strolled leisurely. Wandering through the citadel, I discovered so much. The central public square was bustling with life, surrounded by ornate buildings with beautiful domes. There was a lovely central fountain where locals and tourists alike gathered, enjoying the lively atmosphere. It's a great spot to just sit and people-watch, soaking in the energy of the place. Beyond the main squares, I ventured further to explore the ancient stone castle ruins. Perched on a sun-drenched grassy hill, these ruins offered breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. It was incredible to imagine the centuries of history that unfolded within these walls. The distant hilltop views of the castle ruins, framed by green trees and bushes under a bright blue sky with white clouds, were picture-perfect moments I won't soon forget. Here are a few of my personal tips for making the most of your Alba Iulia visit: Wear comfortable shoes: You'll be doing a lot of walking on those beautiful cobblestone streets, so good footwear is essential! Allow plenty of time: Don't rush it. I recommend dedicating at least half a day, if not a full day, to truly explore all the nooks and crannies of the Citadel. Catch the Changing of the Guard: If your timing is right, this ceremony is a sight to behold and adds to the historical immersion. Explore beyond the main gates: While the grand entrance archways are impressive, make sure to wander off the main paths. That's where I found some of the most serene ancient castle ruins and quiet spots. Visit at different times: The citadel has a completely different charm in the morning light compared to the evening when everything is lit up. The illuminated archways at night are particularly atmospheric. Alba Iulia, Romania, truly offers a unique blend of history, culture, and stunning architecture. It felt like stepping into a living museum, and I would encourage anyone traveling through Transylvania to put it on their itinerary. My experience there was genuinely unforgettable, and I'm already dreaming of my next visit!
