Lately, I’ve been binge-watching a lot of supernatural shows and, honestly, it’s made me a bit jumpy around the house. You know that feeling when you hear a creak or a funny noise and your mind immediately conjures up all kinds of spooky possibilities? I get it, it’s easy to let fear take over, but here’s something I found pretty amusing about my own take on these moments. If something spooky is going on—like a goblin or even a murderer lurking in my house—I’m not going to investigate. Instead, my immediate thought is to head out to Target. Why Target? Because I imagine a goblin might not want to follow me to a familiar, crowded place like that. It almost feels like an unspoken safe zone, kind of like a friendly neighborhood where even the spookiest things might think twice before tagging along. On the other hand, I’m convinced that if any creepier-than-usual presence were to follow me, it would definitely go with me to Walmart because, let’s be honest, everyone shops there. So, my mental image is that goblins are selective—they avoid Target but might brave Walmart. It’s funny how our brains create these little fantasies to cope with fear. As someone who also teaches middle school, I know better than to stick around investigating strange noises—I’m all about safety and sanity. I remind myself that chasing sounds usually leads to bad decisions and unnecessary stress. Sometimes, you just need to laugh it off and choose your safe spot, whether it’s a 24-hour store or your favorite local spot. This playful way of thinking about spooky situations has helped me manage nighttime jitters. It’s a mix of humor and practical thinking: I don’t have to confront every scary noise, I just need to be smart about my reactions. So if you ever hear something weird and want to get out of the house, maybe consider which store you’d trust more to keep you safe—and why. For me, that store will always be Target.
