My Prayer for my son

Oh my sweet boy. My prayer for you is that one day we will look on back on these tough days, and realize God put us through it for such a bigger purpose.

Every night when I rock you to sleep, I take a moment to recognize just how much your precious little body has been through in this short life you’ve had.

But the thing is you have never stopped smiling and never stopped fighting. You are such an inspiration to me and to so many others.

Next month we have another big meeting with doctors at another hospital. They think they can help you, Walker. I’m praying these doctors can help us find an answer. Because just like you, I’ll never stop fighting. 🤍

For many of us, navigating the ups and downs of our children's lives leads us to a place of deep spiritual connection. When my own son faces challenges, whether big or small, my first instinct is always to turn to prayer. It's a sacred space where I can lay bare my fears, my hopes, and my unconditional love for him. This isn't just about asking for things; it’s about finding strength, peace, and guidance for both of us. I often think about what it truly means to offer ‘a mother’s prayer for her son.’ It’s a prayer for his health, yes, but it extends far beyond that. I pray for his character – that he grows into a kind, compassionate, and resilient young man. I pray for his wisdom, that he makes good choices and learns from his mistakes. I pray for his protection, not just from physical harm, but from emotional pain and negative influences. And crucially, I pray for his happiness and fulfillment, that he finds his purpose and lives a life filled with joy. It’s a holistic prayer, covering every facet of his being, from his tiny toes to his deepest dreams. During those tough times, when you feel helpless, prayer becomes your anchor. I remember countless nights rocking my little one, eyes closed, whispering every plea and hope into the quiet darkness. It’s in these moments that I feel a profound connection, a sense that I’m not alone in this journey. It’s a form of 'Motherhood Real Talk' – raw, honest, and straight from the heart. It’s not always eloquent or perfectly worded; sometimes it’s just a silent cry, a deep breath, or a simple 'please help him.' But even in its simplest form, it’s powerful. It helps me process my own emotions, to release the anxieties that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Beyond personal appeals, prayer also helps me cultivate gratitude. Even amidst struggles, there are always blessings. Recognizing these, even small ones, shifts my perspective and fills me with renewed hope. It reminds me that even when things are incredibly difficult, there’s a bigger picture, a larger purpose, and an enduring love that surrounds us. This isn't to say that prayer makes challenges disappear, but it certainly changes how I face them. It gives me the resilience to keep going, to keep fighting alongside my son, and to believe that answers will come, perhaps not in the way I expect, but in the way that is ultimately best. If you’re a mother searching for words, know that your heartfelt intentions are enough. There’s no right or wrong way to pray. You can speak from your heart, read scripture, or simply sit in silence, holding your child in your thoughts. Consider keeping a prayer journal, documenting your hopes and fears, and later, the blessings and answers you receive. It can be incredibly affirming to look back and see how far you've come. Finding a community of other praying mothers can also offer immense support and shared strength. We’re all in this together, united by the fierce, protective, and hopeful love we have for our children. And through prayer, we strengthen that bond, not just with our sons, but with a source of comfort far greater than ourselves.
