Things I say as a NICU nurse 🩷👶🏻🍼

I started my nursing career working on med surg, then adult ICU. When I tell you the best decision I ever made in my career was coming over to NICU land 🩷 I work in a level 3 so we see everything from 22 weekers to newborns! I love my job so much! If you have any questions about NICU nursing leave them in the comments! 👶🏻🩷🍼

... Read moreWorking in a Level 3 NICU is both rewarding and challenging. As a NICU nurse, you're often met with extreme cases—from caring for 22-week-old preemies to supporting full-term newborns. The emotional weight of this job cannot be understated, as you balance joy in small victories against the backdrop of daily struggles. Common phrases like, "You little stinker!" or "Wow, that's a big poop!" not only lighten the mood but also reflect the unique bond nurses form with their patients. A crucial aspect of NICU work is navigating the complexities of equipment and care procedures, all while remaining a source of comfort for worried parents. The glow of NICU lights fills the room as these tiny fighters showcase their resilience, reminding us all why we chose this tough yet rewarding path. Each moment—whether cheerful or serious—fuels our passion to provide the best care for these vulnerable lives. As I reflect on my NICU journey, I'm constantly reminded of the strength, bravery, and love that encapsulate this special field of nursing.

Ahh I keep thinking about the NICU as a possible specialty for me but my oldest was a NICU baby and I’m not sure how I’d actually feel about it. Worried about past memories.
