Bible Tassels is something new I’ve started making

2024/9/23 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share about a new crafting journey I've embarked on: making handmade Bible tassels! It's such a lovely way to add a personal touch to your Bible or devotional, and they make thoughtful gifts too. I've been getting so many questions about how I make mine, so I wanted to put together a little guide for you all. If you've been searching for a DIY Bible tassel tutorial or bible tassel bookmark ideas, you're in the right place! Making your own decorative tassel is surprisingly simple and so rewarding. For the one I recently finished, I used a beautiful combination of various yarns in white, beige, and green, which gave it a really natural, calming feel. I also incorporated some delicate white lace for an elegant touch, and various small beads to add a bit of sparkle. The best part was adding a silver "Pray" charm – it really makes it special and meaningful. Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need and how you can make your very own: Materials You'll Need: Yarn: Choose your favorite colors! I love warm tones like white, beige, and green, but any combination works. You'll need about 10-12 inches for the length of the tassel. Scissors: For cutting yarn and string. Cardboard or a book: About 4-6 inches wide, to wrap your yarn around. Accent beads: Small beads, wooden beads (like the two I used at the top!), or even larger decorative ones. Charms: A silver "Pray" charm or any other meaningful charm you prefer. Lace or ribbon: A strip of white lace or a thin ribbon for added embellishment. Strong string or white cord: To tie off your tassel and create the loop for hanging. A sturdy white cord with a wooden bead at the top works perfectly for a finished look! Step-by-Step DIY Bible Tassel Guide: Wrap the Yarn: Take your cardboard or book and start wrapping your chosen yarns around it. The more wraps, the fuller your tassel will be. I usually do about 50-70 wraps, mixing my white, beige, and green yarns. Tie the Top: Carefully slide the wrapped yarn off the cardboard. Take a separate piece of string or white cord (about 8-10 inches) and tie a tight double knot around one end of the looped yarn, about half an inch from the very top. This will be the hanging loop. Create the Tassel Head: About an inch or so below the first knot, take another piece of yarn (about 6 inches) and tightly wrap it around all the yarn strands several times. Tie it off securely to create the 'head' of your tassel. Trim the Loops: Now, take your scissors and cut through all the yarn loops at the bottom of your tassel to create individual strands. Trim them evenly to your desired length. Add Embellishments: This is where the fun really begins! Thread your small beads onto some of the individual yarn strands, securing them with a knot or a dot of glue. Attach your white lace by tying it around the tassel head or weaving it in. Attach Charms and Wooden Beads: For the hanging loop, thread your silver "Pray" charm onto it. If you're using wooden beads at the top, thread those onto the hanging cord as well, above the main tassel. A larger wooden bead can act as a stopper or a decorative element on the cord. Final Touches: Make sure all knots are secure and give your tassel a good shake to let the strands fall naturally. You can even add a touch of fabric stiffener if you want a more rigid tassel shape. These biblical tassels aren't just beautiful; they’re a constant reminder of faith and devotion. Whether you’re making a bible tassel bookmark DIY for yourself or as a gift, the process is incredibly meditative and satisfying. I hope you enjoy making your own unique piece! Happy crafting!
