The reason(s) I have no money 💰

2025/3/4 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, let's be real. If you're like me, you've probably asked yourself 'why am I always broke?' more times than you can count. And for me, the answer is always staring right back from my bookshelves and my favorite coffee mug. It's the delightful, yet financially draining, world of books, coffee, and all the little extras that come with them! I mean, who can resist a brand new release? Especially when authors like Sarah J. Maas drop another masterpiece. My bank account definitely feels the impact every time a new 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' or 'Crescent City' novel hits the shelves. Those hardcovers aren't just books; they're tickets to incredible worlds filled with Fae, wings, and epic adventures. The immediate satisfaction of diving into a new fantasy realm? Priceless... or at least, that's what I tell myself when I see the price tag! It's not just the books themselves; it's the beautiful covers, the anticipation, the discussions with fellow fans about the characters and those intricate plot twists. You know what I'm talking about if you've been swept away by the magic of Velaris or the bustling streets of Lunathion. And let's not forget the journals and pens that go along with annotating favorite passages or just journaling thoughts after finishing a poignant story. It's a whole aesthetic! And then there's coffee. My daily ritual, my morning kickstart, my afternoon pick-me-up. Whether it's a fancy latte from my favorite local cafe or a meticulously brewed pour-over at home, that caffeine fix is non-negotiable. The costs add up so quickly, don't they? One coffee a day seems innocent enough, but multiply that by seven days a week, and suddenly you're looking at a significant chunk of change. It’s more than just a drink; it’s a moment of peace, a companion for reading, or a reason to catch up with friends. So, how do we navigate this glorious, yet expensive, passion without completely emptying our wallets? I've picked up a few tricks to keep my book and coffee habits from completely bankrupting me. For books, libraries are a godsend! Seriously, free books! I also haunt second-hand bookstores and online sales. Sometimes waiting for the paperback release saves a ton. For those must-have hardcovers, I try to pre-order to save a few bucks or stick to one big purchase a month. Joining online book communities or local book clubs can also lead to sharing books or discovering hidden gems without immediately buying them. For coffee, investing in a good home setup has been a game-changer. My fancy espresso machine might have been an initial splurge, but it's saved me so much in the long run. Plus, I love trying new beans from local roasters – it’s a fun hobby in itself! When I do treat myself to a cafe visit, I try to make it a special occasion rather than an everyday expense, or I make sure to use loyalty programs and discounts. Bringing my own reusable cup often gets a small discount too! It's all about finding that balance, right? We work hard, and we deserve to treat ourselves to the things that bring us joy and enrich our lives. For me, that's getting lost in a captivating story with a warm cup of coffee in hand. It might mean I'm a little 'broke' sometimes, but my soul (and my bookshelf) feels incredibly rich. What are your happy spending habits that leave your wallet a little lighter but your heart full? Share your tips and confessions too!
