Being an assistant at a boutique salon means mastering the art of anticipation.

If you want the day to run smoothly, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. Here is what's on my radar every single shift:

🧵 1. The Art of the Setup

Before a client even steps foot in the salon, their station needs to be a sanctuary.

Color Matching Beads & Thread: Having the exact shade match ready to go saves precious minutes.

Tool Placement: Pliers, loop needles, threaders, and clips always in the exact same, accessible spot. Consistency equals speed.

The Fresh Factor: Double-checking that the chair, mirror, and rolling cart are absolutely spotless.

☕️ 2. Elevating the Vibe

Technical skills matter, but the luxury experience is what clients remember.

Anticipating Needs: Refreshing a drink before it’s completely empty.

The Little Luxuries: Ensuring a fresh towel, a phone charger, or a magazine is within reach without them having to ask.

The Wash House Ritual: Turning the shampoo bowl into a mini-spa moment—perfect water temp, a flawless towel wrap, and zero rushing.

🧹 3. The Ninja Cleanup

The best assistant is practically invisible but everywhere at once.

Hair Snippets: Sweeping up cutting debris immediately so the floor stays pristine.

Station Reset: The second a stylist moves to a new section, resetting their tools, clearing away foils or discarded threads, and keeping the clutter at zero.

Sectioning Clips: Washing and sanitizing clips constantly so we never run short during a busy afternoon.

It’s a fast-paced dance, but there is something so satisfying about looking at a busy salon floor and knowing you’re the glue keeping it all together. 🤍
