Stranger Things as a Manga
What do you think of season 5?
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to dive into a new art project that combines two of my absolute favorite things: Stranger Things and manga! You saw my initial panel idea, and I'm already planning a full page soon, but I wanted to share some thoughts on why I think this crossover works so well and give you some ideas for your own Stranger Things manga art. First off, the Stranger Things aesthetic just screams for a manga interpretation, doesn't it? The dramatic expressions, the intense action, the slightly otherworldly vibe of the Upside Down – it all translates beautifully into the dynamic lines and emotional depth that manga is known for. I’ve been brainstorming so much 'stuff to draw' from the series, and honestly, the possibilities are endless! If you're looking for simple Stranger Things drawings to try, starting with character portraits is always a great idea. Think about Eleven's determined gaze, Dustin's wide-eyed wonder, or Steve's surprisingly heroic expressions. In manga style, you can really play up their unique features. For example, giving Eleven those intense, almost glowing eyes when she uses her powers, or exaggerating Dustin's cap and curly hair for a cute, recognizable look. These can be really easy Stranger Things drawings to get started with. But what about the scarier stuff? How about drawing the Mind Flayer, for instance? That might sound intimidating, but making a Mind Flayer drawing easy is all about breaking down its complex form into simpler, more manageable shapes. Focus on its sprawling, shadowy silhouette and those menacing tendrils. You can use strong black inks to emphasize its mysterious presence, which is a classic manga technique. Imagine the Mind Flayer looming over Hawkins in a dramatic, almost gothic manga style – super cool! Another fun challenge is capturing the overall Stranger Things drawing aesthetic. It's not just about the characters, but the atmosphere. Think about the eerie glow of the Upside Down, the flickering lights hinting at danger, or the nostalgic 80s outfits. When drawing these, I try to think about how manga artists use panel layouts, speed lines, and tonal screentones to convey mood and movement. You could draw a dramatic scene of Vecna's house, or a portal opening, using those techniques to amp up the tension. For those of us who love a good challenge, consider drawing an entire scene. Maybe the gang riding their bikes through Hawkins, or a confrontation with a Demogorgon. The key to making these complex scenes feel like easy Stranger Things drawings in a manga context is to simplify backgrounds and focus on the character's reactions. If you're drawing a Demogorgon, emphasize its terrifying mouth and sharp teeth with dynamic lines, while making the characters' reactions highly expressive. I'm really excited to see what everyone else thinks about Season 5 and what kind of Stranger Things manga art you'd love to create. What 'stuff to draw' comes to your mind first? I'm hoping to share my full page drawing soon, and maybe even show you how I approach drawing the first panel in more detail. Let's get creative and bring Hawkins into the manga world! Don't forget to share your ideas and creations with me!
