Read moreWhen I first started planning this Deltarune Asgore cosplay, I knew I wanted to do something a little different, something that really captured the complex themes of the game while still being uniquely 'me.' The idea of a 'TV head' Asgore with a weirdcore aesthetic just clicked, especially when I thought about the central question that Deltarune often asks us: how do we truly 'show compassion'? For me, Deltarune is more than just a game; it’s a journey into understanding kindness, choice, and what it means to be a good friend. Ralsei, in particular, always emphasizes the importance of acting with kindness and trying to resolve conflicts peacefully. This resonated deeply with me, and I started thinking about other characters who, despite their appearances or pasts, embody this spirit of compassion. Asgore, with his gentle nature that often gets overshadowed by his kingly duties or past actions in Undertale, felt like the perfect choice to explore this theme. The TV head was a creative way to symbolize a few things. In a weirdcore context, it can represent altered realities or a sense of detachment, but for my Asgore, I saw it as a filter—a way to project or broadcast his inherent kindness, even if his words or actions might sometimes seem gruff. It’s like his true, compassionate heart is being visually amplified, even through a somewhat unusual lens. Building that TV head was quite the project! I spent hours sketching designs, figuring out the wiring for the screens, and getting the paint just right. During these long crafting sessions, I often had the Deltarune soundtrack playing in the background. There are so many tracks that just perfectly capture the game's emotional depth, and listening to them while working on Asgore really felt like it was absolutely blessing my ears right now, infusing the piece with that genuine game spirit. Thinking about 'how to show compassion' is such a core part of the Deltarune experience. It's not always about grand gestures; sometimes it's about making a seemingly small choice, offering a kind word, or just trying to understand someone else's perspective. With this cosplay, I wanted to embody that idea – showing compassion doesn't always look conventional. It can be found in unexpected places, wrapped in a strange aesthetic, but still shine through clearly. It’s about the intention, the heart behind the character, and the message you want to convey. This entire project became a reflection on compassion. From painstakingly gluing circuits for the TV screen to selecting the perfect shade of purple for Asgore’s robes, every step was a reminder of why I love this game and its characters so much. It’s about finding the mercy and kindness, even when things look bleak or unusual. I truly hope that when people see my TV head Asgore, they don't just see a cool costume, but also a unique interpretation of Deltarune's powerful message about choosing compassion, no matter what.
