Paung chapter 2 (He won the giant Amuka with injustice)

Paung chapter II discusses an incident in which the Buddha defeated a fierce giant named Amalek the Giant with patience and wisdom, not with force.

The Pali chapter has that

The bowl hit the Sutanta Vithina Shitawa Muninto.

Tantecha Bhawatu Te Chayamangalani

The overall meaning is

> The Lord of Muni has defeated the giant Amon, who is fiercer than the devil, who fights all night by means of diligence and self-training. May victory be acceptable to you.

Once upon a time, there was a dense forest where people were terrified, and no one dared approach when the sun set.

In the middle of the forest is a large strange mansion, home to a giant named Amuka.

He's not an ordinary giant.

But a giant known for one of the most cruel of its day.

The villagers told each other that Amuka had tremendous power, could fly, walk the air, create storms, and make people go crazy with fear.

No one dares approach his habitat.

Even the King must bow.

According to legend, Amuka originally liked to catch humans for food, so many people died because of his ruthlessness.

Every time the giant gets angry, the whole forest vibrates.

Many loud roars

Wild animals took refuge.

People closed the doors of the house in fear.

One day, the Buddha saw with his spirit that this giant, though harsh and fierce, had the opportunity to achieve justice.

And he went to the place of Amalaka.

At that time, Amuka was absent.

The Buddha entered the giant's mansion, and sat in peace.

Evening, Ahlyuka is back.

And when he saw a man sitting in his house, he was angry, and his eyes were red.

"How dare you come into our place!"

The roar erupted.

The tree shook.

The animals stampeded.

But the other side is still sitting calm.

The Buddha did not show the slightest terror.

Amuka thought to be intimidating.

He shouted:

"Get out!"

The Buddha got up and left.

The giant laughed pleasantly.

Then another order.

"Get back in!"

The Buddha came back in.

Amuka began to think that he was controlling this person.

So ordered again.

"Get out!"

He went out.

"Come in!"

He came in.

Events like this have happened many times.

Until the last time.

Amuka shouted arrogantly.

"Get out again!"

This time, the Buddha spoke peacefully.

"Enough, Amaluka, we have followed your orders many times. This time we will not leave."

That answer enraged the giant like an eruption volcano.

He used threats.

A whirlwind erupted.

Lightning struck all around.

Darkness covered the area.

The roar echoed throughout the forest.

But the Buddha still sat still.

Like a rocky mountain where no storm moves.

The giant became surprised.

In all his life, no one has ever been afraid of him.

No one ever dared sit idly by in front of his authority.

But this person is incredibly calm.

When the threats didn't work out, Amalaka changed ways.

He announced that

"If you do not answer my question, I will throw you across the river or tear your heart to pieces."

The Buddha replied calmly.

"Ask, Amaluka."

So the giant started causing trouble.

"What treasure is the most precious?"

The Buddha said,

"Faith is a noble treasure."

"What brings happiness?"

"Dharma that behaves well and brings happiness."

"Which taste is better than all?"

"The taste of truth will excel all taste."

"How is life the best?"

"A life carried by wisdom is the best life."

Amuka kept asking.

From the will to overcome to curiosity.

From anger to suspicion.

From doubt to devotion.

Throughout the night, the cruel giant gradually changed.

Like a rock that is repeatedly dripped by water.

And finally, the hardness began to corrode.

When the morning came, Amuka bowed his head to his feet.

The long-accumulated arrogance collapsed.

He realized that throughout his life, he had overcome people by force, but had never overcome his own anger.

The calm man in front of him defeats the fierce giant without a single weapon.

Amuka then declared himself a disciple of the Buddha, and eventually renounced his cruelty.

This is why Paung chapter II raised this event to victory, because the Buddha did not win with power, did not win with battle, and did not win with violence, but with perseverance, great patience, and wisdom that can turn enemies into believers.

This victory is therefore a deeper victory than any war win, for it wins the hearts of those who were so filled with anger and darkness that they become completely new.
