Learn from my freelancing mistakes 😅

Here are 3 things I wish someone had told me when I first started freelancing! 😅

Do your future self a favor and follow these 3 tips to avoid stress, panic, and burnout! 💖

1. Over save for taxes.

The not-so-glamourous side of freelancing is taxes! They’re not fun, but crucial!

You NEED to overestimate what you owe- set aside 30-40% of your income EVERY TIME you get paid. Future you will *thank* you when tax season rolls around.

2. Plan for dry spells.

Some months you'll be slammed and have absolutely no time for yourself, but other months You might experience crickets (and don’t worry, slow months are totally normal!)

BUT you need to plan ahead and build a buffer now so you’re not spiraling when client work slows down.

3. Keep pitching—*even* when you're fully booked.

Clients can leave with little to no notice. Projects can and WILL suddenly vanish, and you seriously need to plan for this!

Please take it from me- do not EVER rely on just one or two clients to fund your entire business.

Future-proof yourself by always planning ahead and outreaching, even when you think you don’t need to. (Having too much work is wayyy better than no work!)

... Read moreStarting a freelancing career can be both thrilling and challenging. Many freelancers may overlook crucial aspects that affect their financial health and overall success. One of the key mistakes to avoid is underestimating tax liabilities. Taxes can be intricate, and it’s wise to set aside a considerable portion of your earnings—typically 30-40%—to meet these obligations comfortably come tax season. Moreover, the freelancing landscape is often unpredictable. Months of abundance can quickly turn into dry spells, leading to financial strain and anxiety. Therefore, it's critical to build a financial buffer during peak months to help navigate the slower periods without stress. This approach not only secures your finances but also enhances your peace of mind. Additionally, continuously seeking new clients is essential for a sustainable business model. Even during busy times, ongoing outreach can safeguard against sudden client departures. Diversifying your client base ensures that your income remains steady. Remember, relying on just one or two clients can jeopardize your entire venture. Embracing proactive strategies and having a robust plan in place is a great way to ensure longevity in freelancing. Stay informed and adaptable; the freelancing world requires a blend of creativity and strategic thinking to thrive!
