I’ve visited 19 states in the United States! And my favorite states are South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.#statesivebeento

... Read moreIt’s been such an incredible journey exploring 19 different states across the US! Every trip has added a new layer to my understanding of this diverse country. When I think about what makes certain states truly 'unique' and memorable for me, it often comes down to the unexpected discoveries and the distinct character each place holds. For example, my favorites like South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida each offer something truly special. South Carolina, with its historic Charleston and beautiful coastline, has a charm that feels like stepping back in time. Georgia, especially around Savannah, blends Southern hospitality with stunning architecture. And Florida? Beyond the theme parks, its natural springs, Everglades, and vibrant cultural hubs like Miami make it incredibly diverse. New Jersey might surprise some, but its beautiful shorelines and charming small towns offer a unique East Coast experience. New York, of course, isn't just NYC; upstate offers breathtaking natural beauty, from the Adirondacks to Niagara Falls. And Pennsylvania, with its rich history in Philadelphia and scenic Amish Country, always offers something new to explore. When you’re planning your own adventures and looking for those 'unique states' to visit, I’ve found it helps to think beyond the typical tourist traps. Here are a few tips I've picked up along the way to make your travels truly one-of-a-kind: Seek Out Local Gems: Instead of just hitting the major landmarks, look for local markets, lesser-known parks, or community events. These often provide a more authentic feel for the state. For instance, exploring the diverse culinary scene in a state like California or Texas can be an adventure in itself, offering flavors you won't find anywhere else. Embrace the Outdoors: Many states boast incredible natural beauty. From the national parks in Utah or Wyoming to the serene lakes in Minnesota or Wisconsin, getting out into nature can reveal a truly unique side of the US. Even a state like Ohio has beautiful state parks and hiking trails worth discovering. Dive into History and Culture: Each state has its own stories. Visiting historical sites, museums, or cultural festivals can offer deep insights. Think about the rich history in Virginia or the vibrant music scenes in Tennessee or Louisiana. Road Trip Planning is Key: If you're aiming to visit multiple states, planning a flexible itinerary is crucial. Apps like Roadtrippers can help you find interesting stops between your main destinations. Don't forget to factor in travel time, especially for longer stretches, perhaps between the West Coast (WA, CA) and the Midwest (MN, WI). Document Your Journey: I love tracking my progress, whether it's on a physical map or a digital one. Seeing that '38% of the US visited' on a map is incredibly motivating! It’s also fun to keep a travel journal or take plenty of photos to remember your unique experiences in each state. Every state, whether it’s one of the first 19 I’ve visited or one I’m yet to explore, holds its own special allure. What makes a state unique is often how you choose to experience it. Happy travels, and I hope you discover your own unique states soon!
