But through it all, we discovered some key practices that helped us not just survive, but truly thrive. One of the biggest game-changers for us was redefining our communication. It wasn't just about talking; it was about how we talked. We made sure to incorporate various methods to keep our connection vibrant. Daily texting wasn't just for logistics; we’d send each other funny memes, share small victories, or just a quick “thinking of you” message to keep that constant presence in each other’s lives. These little moments of long-distance relationship texting made a huge difference in feeling connected during the day. Beyond texts, our long-distance relationship phone calls became sacred. We tried to schedule them so they weren’t rushed, allowing us to dive deeper than just surface-level updates. Asking open-ended questions about each other's day, hopes, and even fears helped us feel truly heard and understood. When one of us was feeling down or missing the other, we’d explicitly talk about those long-distance relationship feelings rather than letting them fester. Reassuring each other about our commitment and future plans was vital for maintaining confidence in the relationship's progression. Finally, planning was crucial for keeping our spirits high.
