โœจ๐Ÿ”‘ Why Do In-Laws Act ENTITLED?! ๐Ÿกโœจ

โœจ TELL ME WHY my fiancรฉโ€™s mom asked for a spare key to OUR house?? A key. To the place I pay bills in, clean, decorate, and come home to after minding my business (and my clientโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜‰). And what really gets me is she asked this with full confidenceโ€ฆ knowing she and I are not on good terms. Thereโ€™s a whole history here.

๐Ÿ“ This woman has:

~ undermined my boundaries more than once showing up unannounced TWICE

~ made BIG comments about me being โ€œdisrespectfulโ€ after I responded to her disrespect towards me

~ tried to make it seem like I should just accept her behavior because sheโ€™s my fiancรฉs mom

~ verbally accosted and berated me and physically touched me

~ and has stated numerous times I donโ€™t meet her or her sonโ€™s โ€œqualificationsโ€โ€ฆ like WHAT THE HEYELL does that even mean??

โœจ And now suddenly she thinks sheโ€™s about to have access to my home like itโ€™s a revolving door?? Iโ€™m sorry but absolutely not. A HARD no. I donโ€™t need anyone popping up unannounced, โ€œchecking on thingsโ€, or trying to supervise my relationship from my living room couch. Iโ€™m all for respecting elders, but be so f-ing real. Respect is mutual, not a one-way street that ends with me handing over a key.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Letโ€™s chat! Ladiesโ€ฆ would yโ€™all be comfortable with this? Or am I 100% valid for shutting this down IMMEDIATELY? Let me know your thoughts and experiences down below! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

... Read moreDealing with in-laws who seem to overstep boundaries can be a significant challenge in many relationships. When a family member, like a fiancรฉโ€™s mom, requests a spare key to your home despite strained relations and a history of boundary violations, it's essential to recognize your right to personal space and security. Feeling entitled to access your home โ€” where you pay bills, manage your life, and build your relationship โ€” is not acceptable, especially when past interactions have involved disrespect and physical boundaries being crossed. It's common for people to assume a sense of entitlement simply due to family ties, but respect must be mutual and earned. Respect isn't a one-way street that requires you to tolerate inappropriate behavior just because someone is related to your partner. Setting clear boundaries and communicating your limits assertively can prevent feelings of resentment and help maintain your peace of mind. In situations like these, itโ€™s important to have open, honest discussions with your partner about the dynamics with in-laws. Support from your partner is crucial when reinforcing that a key to your home will not be handed over without mutual trust and respect. Many have shared similar experiences of in-laws showing entitlement by appearing unannounced or making unsolicited comments about the relationship. These behaviors can be intrusive and damaging if left unchecked. You deserve to feel safe and comfortable in your home without supervision or unwanted visits. If youโ€™re faced with such circumstances, trust your instincts. Saying a firm 'no' is completely valid and necessary. Healthy relationships thrive on respect, privacy, and mutual understanding, not on permission to invade personal space. Have you encountered disrespect from your in-laws? How did you handle it? Sharing your story can help others navigate these complicated family dynamics too.

I sure hope she's not planning a take over. Guard what's yours.

i definitely wouldnโ€™t give her a key.. thatโ€™s such an odd request too. i understand if youโ€™re going out of town or whatever and sheโ€™s supposed to check on the house but just a key to have? nuh uh. it seems like she just isnโ€™t ready to let her son go
