✨➿ How I Grew STRONGER, LONGER Locs ➰✨
✨ Growing healthy locs has been all about consistency over perfection. 💚 As someone who started locs with 4B and 4C hair textures (Hell, it’s probably some 4A in there too 😅), I learned that my hair didn’t need dozens of products, it needed a routine I could actually stick to.
✨ Over the years, these are some of the products that have supported my journey:
🌿 Dr Miracle’s Intensive Spot Serum along my edges
🌿 Hair growth oils on my crown and hair shafts
🌿 Rosemary oil & rosemary water on my hair shafts
🌿 Moisturizing leave-in creams throughout
🌿 Hydrating shampoo & conditioner for squeaky clean hair shafts and scalp
🌿 A daily water mist routine for hydration
🌿 Vitamins to support overall wellness
✨ And the GOAT of it all? A simple spray bottle filled with plain water. I lightly mist my locs daily or every other day to help keep them hydrated before sealing in moisture with an oil or lightweight product. Healthy hair starts with moisture, and dry locs, especially ones that are color treated like mine, are much more prone to breakage.

From my experience growing 4B and 4C locs, one key insight I’ve learned is that moisture is truly the foundation of healthy loc growth. Locs tend to dry out quickly, especially if they are color treated or exposed frequently to harsh elements. To combat this, I consistently use a daily mist of plain water followed by a lightweight oil like Jamaican Black Castor Oil infused with rosemary. This combo helps lock in hydration without weighing the locs down. Another important part of my routine has been using gentle sulfate-free shampoos and nourishing conditioners that cleanse the scalp and locs without stripping natural oils. I found that balancing cleansing with adequate moisture retention prevents dryness, itchiness, and ultimately breakage. For instance, Bellisso Batana Oil Shampoo and conditioner deeply moisturize and strengthen damaged hair, supporting loc vitality. Edge care is often overlooked but is essential for maintaining a neat look and preventing thinning at the hairline. I use Dr Miracle’s Intensive Spot Serum sparingly on sparse or weak spots to encourage growth and fortify my edges. This has made a noticeable difference over time. Supporting overall health inside and out is also crucial. I take vitamins rich in iron and B-complex to aid hair growth from the inside, ensuring my scalp and hair follicles receive essential nutrients. Hair growth oils combined with rosemary water applied to the hair shafts also stimulate blood flow, promoting stronger locs. What really helped me was creating a routine that fits my lifestyle—consistency over complexity. I avoid piling on unnecessary products and instead focus on those proven to work well with my natural hair texture. I encourage anyone on their loc journey to customize their routine too—every head of hair responds differently. Lastly, patience and protecting the locs from excessive manipulation are vital. Frequent styling changes or harsh tension can lead to breakage; gentle handling and protective styles have supported my length retention immensely. If you’re new to locs with 4B/4C hair, try starting with a simple water mist, nourishing oils, and a hydrating shampoo/conditioner duo. Pay attention to your scalp health and edge care to see your locs grow stronger and longer over time.
