... Read moreOne of the absolute highlights of my recent trip to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens was getting up close with those magnificent creatures! Seriously, if you're planning a visit, you have to experience the giraffe feeding. It's truly something special and creates memories you won't soon forget. I remember seeing signs that clearly stated 'Feedings As Available' – a reminder to check the daily schedule when you arrive, as times can vary. Getting to offer a treat directly to a giraffe was incredible – their long tongues are surprisingly gentle as they take the food right from your hand! It’s a fantastic photo opportunity and an amazing way to connect with these gentle giants. My tip is to head to the giraffe exhibit early in your visit to secure your spot or check feeding times, as they can be popular. Beyond the towering giraffes, the elephant exhibit was equally captivating. I spent ages just watching them. Their sheer size, intelligence, and intricate social behaviors are a sight to behold. The Jacksonville Zoo has done a wonderful job creating a spacious and engaging habitat for them, making it feel like you’re transported to their natural environment. I’d recommend seeking out any keeper talks if they’re scheduled during your visit; learning about the elephants from the experts adds so much depth to the experience. You might even catch them playing in their water features or interacting with enrichment toys. It’s truly fascinating to observe their movements and interactions within their herd. Overall, my afternoon at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens was filled with wonder. From the thrill of feeding giraffes to the awe of watching the elephants, it’s an adventure for all ages. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes because there's a lot to explore, and bring a water bottle, especially if you're visiting during warmer Florida months. Going early in the morning often provides cooler temperatures and more active animals. It’s more than just a zoo; it’s a place where you can create genuine connections with wildlife and learn more about conservation efforts. I highly recommend checking it out on your next Florida trip!
